Prospecting: Cold Email vs. Cold Call what’s the best approach?

Maybe I have thick skin, but I am a huge proponent of the call --> email approach. It's a good way to get a sure fire answer.

like

I feel the same. I sometime send the email and then follow up with the call. I will rotate my strategy. Sometimes even send text messages/whats app messages to existing clients that we already have a relationship.

Question for you, how would you rather be sold?

Personally you call me, 9 times out of 10 it’s going to VM. I respond only to VM’s I care about, while others are deleted or blocked.

However, I look at my emails, most I delete, but compelling enough or “right timing” I will open and skim.

Food for thought…

I would say emails over phone calls. Phone calls I will not answer if I don't know the number. Emails if it catches my interest i will read it as well as the email is there for me anytime i have free time and i can open it. Also, emails allow me to read about it, get more info, or research more if i want to.

Testing this out right now with my team as well. I think email is still better and less annoying but open to hearing others' experiences.

Emails. I prefer it that way. I am not that comfortable with phone calls so sending emails is the way for me.

Have been listening to a few podcasts lately on this approach and it seems cold calls aren’t any more effective than emails and LinkedIn reach outs. Just from personal experience, people are much less likely to pick up the phone but more likely to open an email. If followed up by a personalized (non salesy) LinkedIn message, assuming that they’re active on LI, I think it sets a more inviting tone. I still do cold calls but haven’t been leaving voicemails lately because it only drives prospects further into blocking all communication from you.

I prefer cold emails. You can go back anytime to read the emails so you or your recipient won't miss any details of the message. But it's better if both.

It completely depends on the situation, like what you're trying to sell and who you are targeting. I know there's been a lot of research done that says executives prefer emails to phone calls. It's obviously important to tailor your approach to whatever your target audience prefers and is more likely to respond to.

Warm call. Get some info on who you’re calling and why. You have to make it worth the time you’re taking to talk to their interests…

Email, follow up with a call

I’m a bit of a greenhorn in this area, but Is there a strategic time to send an email or is it all contents of the email and chance?

Don’t think there’s a strategic timing. Personally:

Prospecting - 9am or earlier. Hopefully the first email at the top of their inbox.
Follow ups - within 24 hours, but definitely in the morning.

My mornings are always focused on client engagements be it prospecting or servicing. Afternoons are left for miscellaneous or internal stuffs.

Make the emails not cold,by talking about the current clients you work with in the area so that the email comes across as more of a warm referral style email. Cold calls in person are harder now if you don’t have a reason as to why you are visiting someone’s business. Either way you can use the same strategy with an in person call and say that you were checking in on current clients and meeting new business owners in the area so that you can get better acquainted with your local business owners. From my experience the shorter and more realistic your pitch is the better chance you have at earning a business owners free time.

Account executive timing matters just as much as the email content.

Email.

Cold emails for sure. Especially if you want to check something, you can easily find it. I will always choose emails over phone calls.

You mean what's worse between the two? Well cold emailing in my opinion is way worse, since you get little to no responses with that. Cold calling on the other hand is a lesser evil in its own right. While warm calling now you've got something there.

Cold emails are a lot less intrusive the way I see it. Plus, I have documentation of it as compared to phone calls. All the details would still be intact and you can go back to it as often as you need. Not everyone is comfortable with phone calls.

Any templates or tips for cold emails or LI messages? The ones have found and adapted all seem not to work.
