PSA: Buy a house if you are able. I spent the first 5 years in big law annoyed and upset with many things but my life has gotten so much better since I bought a house. I now have a separate office to work from and actually like working from home. I no longer have loud neighbors I share a wall or ceiling/floor with. I have an extra room for my mother in law to stay in and visit my infant child (instead of taking him to her house for visits only once a month). Also no worry about rent hikes.

have you seen the market right now?

Lol is this real advice. You don’t have to rent a hovel.

In my city, three bedroom apartments are rare and very expensive. I originally looked for a three bedroom apartment and then did the math on buying and realized it made more sense to buy than rent. To be clear, the last two years of bonuses and raises are the only reason I had a big enough down payment to make it worth it. Also, the one thing I sacrificed was proximity to the office but I am never going back in full time and the commute isn't bad if I do.

I rent a townhouse and have a home office but I get nervous about buying a house because for some reason I have imposter syndrome about my own salary. I even have the down payment ready to go.

Perspective check:

I'm an SA, and my fiance is finishing up her residency and loves the medical field. I make good money and have a house but I feel like the relationship and the obligations (house, family) are anchors and holding me back from living my life. I want to sell and live on the road, traveling and being free.

I love my fiance and my family but I just want to quit everything and just hit the road.

Am I being dumb?

I have worked with really amazing recruiters in the past but lately I am coming across a few below average recruiters...even from really reputable/large legal recruiting companies.

Is this happening because there are so many attorneys out there that the recruiters don't have to cultivate relationships and be professional?

I admit, as a fifth year big law associate it has taken me way too long to find a good memory devise for whether Supra or infra means “see above” or “see below.” But I found it and now I’ll share it with my other Latin-vocabulary-challenged fishies.

“Supra” has the word “up” in it. As in: see up! Boom. Done. You’re welcome.
