How do I negotiate a signing bonus? I have a verbal offer for a base salary I'm very happy with (121k -> 168k). The first offer for a signing bonus is $10k. I said I wanted more bonus and gave the vague justification that I have to pay off something at my current employer. Recruiter asked for specifics and I said PTO I used that hadn't accrued fully and some other stuff I have to look into. That doesn't add up to 10k, I just want more money.

How many PTO days do you get day 1?

What’s your PTO like? I just started a new position with a $25k increase in salary from my previous role, great benefits (besides PTO), and a good environment …. But I start with 0 hours of PTO and accrue up to 12 days over the course of a year. Am I crazy or is this terrible for a tech position? My previous role, which I hated, had unlimited PTO which we were encouraged to use.

A close family member died suddenly. She had stage 4 cancer that was asymptomatic. Never smoked in her life. Never even coughed. We were extremely close. Her sudden death has shook me to my core. On top of that I have to move my mother, who has been sick for sometime, into hospice this weekend. I’m finding it hard to gather the motivation I need to work the way I used to. I will add that I didn’t really take any time off so maybe that’s what I need but I hate when work builds up.

Is it frowned upon to start a new job with already 2 weeks of vacation planned within a week of starting? Seen it done, unsure if it looks bad or not. Insight please!

Stop talking about how busy and frantic you are with work on a holiday week. It’s not a badge of honor, and I’m not impressed. There are only two reasons why you’re busy:
1. You suck at planning.
2. You don’t know how to set boundaries.
3. You don’t care enough about your direct reports to set boundaries so that they can relax this week.

I just received an offer from Deloitte USDC coming on as a Investigations Senior Consultant @ $110k, $5k signing bonus, 100% remote position (requested) Can Someone explain what benefits are afforded to me? Is the 401k match the same? Recruiter stated 3 weeks and 3 days of PTO…does that mean 18 days or 24 days? Also, can someone clarify the parental leave policy as compared to core? Help! I’m transitioning into Product Design and finally got my first offer. Super excited but want to make sure that I’m compensated competitively. The company is a newer startup, estab. around 2017. I would be their first PD. They have offered me the following 2 options to choose between:

- CAD $77,000 p.a., 20 days of paid annual leave, 10 days of paid sick leave

- CAD $81,000 p.a.,10 days of paid annual leave, 5 days of paid sick leave

Just lateralled into a new firm last week, induction / introductions / department communications have been poor - nothing on resourcing, no introductions to partners or anybody in the team, had to trawl through other peoples diaries to get invites to internal meetings. I've tried to be proactive and schedule 15min meetings with partners and project managers, look for email distribution lists to get added to etc. Is this normal / any advice on what else to do to try to speed settling in along?

What’s it like to lose a client or lateral to a new firm and the client does not follow you? There’s a lateral partner at my firm that’s been here for about 2 years and a lot of the clients ultimately decided not to join. I don’t know why but I feel bad for the partner.

Anyone know what it’s like to work as in-house counsel for a global company on investigations and compliance? Is there a lot of travel, or are internal investigations all being conducted remotely now? Is the work more or less the same as it is for outside counsel?

There’s a point where it’s irresponsible to NOT say it because you’re liable to start dropping the ball and negatively impacting clients, or at least producing work product that takes forever to fix.

How many client billable hours (excluding probono etc) are you supposed to be billing per month not to be fired? I range anywhere from 130 to 200 hours depending on the month.

Any predictions on the LIV golfers lawsuit? Looks like some big name firms are going to cash in on some Saudi money.

Any other senior associates find this job insanely difficult?
