black box. As someone who had to go through this with a support network that got this wrong my care and ultimately recovery timeline was longer and more painful for me. -hospitalized patients for this cannot be your daily updater; many of them aren’t even able to text or speak -once patients are intubated if they are heavily heavily sedated (they are) they’ll be asleep or in and out of a twilight. They cannot move much because it will damage their lung tissue -if they have to be put into a coma they can’t hear your calls, answer your texts, or deal with you all somehow making this about you instead of letting them focus -All patients are in there alone with visitors allowed. This is a pandemic and they don’t make exceptions for emotional relatives. -if you’re going to text then send calm, supportive messages. The split send they see your messages and they’re a crap storm or full of drama you alter their breathing, which is compromised to begin with This is not a typical hospitalization, and you cannot get up into the overburdened hospital’s face and demand updates. They don’t have it to spare. Not even my own record has been updated in the portal because they are wearing thin on resources. You have to figure out another way to support your friends and family who are in there without becoming a burden to them or their caregivers. They need to focus and rest. A lot. Sometimes without a choice.

With *no* visitors allowed

There are few things I dislike more than people asking me “So how are you feeling? Send me an update!” When I’m sick.

It’s the only thing more selfish than going absolutely silent. I mean what is the meaning of repeatedly calling someone who is not answering texts? Do they think you’ll take the tubes from your own body to draw them a dashboard?? Y’all realise a ventilator means they can’t talk for weeks after it’s out right? Gah.

I thought of one more thing that’s also not good. After discharge, follow the doctor’s orders to the T. The patient is way too weak for anyone to play doctor with his/her nonexistent medical doctorate thinking he/she knows better than the people who literally just saved the patient just because that person read WebMD, watched the news, rejects medicine and wants to heal with all-natural things, or just wants to feel smart in quarantine. It’s really cruel to do that to someone who is too sick to defend himself/herself.

Any advice?: Just finished long term W2 freelance role (since Jan) + I also have a small 1099 side project that‘ll be finishing up in 2ish wks. If we are talking >10k on 1099 (i.e. not enough to justify filing for SCorp) + <160-200k on W2 — is there any real tax advantage of opening LLC vs paying me directly outside of the “protects personal assets if ever sued”, etc? Technically I *could* open LLC quickly b4 invoicing- but dunno if worth $ to do so for such small amount of 1099 coming in?
