Publicis/Razorfish folks: what does it take to get a real raise around here? Not feeling loved.

I don't buy the "be glad for whatever you get because there are layoffs" argument. I still deserve to be compensated and rewarded as a high performing employee. Or lose me to somewhere that will.

like

Be glad for anything you get. Lots of folks got laid off this week.

like

Welcome to the Publicis hiring freeze. Better bring in an offer or else prepare to get shafted.

like

Or you could go somewhere they appreciate your talents and are willing to compensate.

like

Are you a C-level employee? Then you're up for promotion. Everyone else? Nope.

like

Haaaaa! Yep, no raises and super hard to get promotions so my only advice is to negotiate HARD before accepting a position at a publicis agency, a number you'll be happy with for 3-5 years without a raise. Or, bring an offer - but be ready to bounce. With layoffs and mergers I doubt they'll match.

like

I have been told by more than one HR person that an offer is the only thing that can get Paris to approve a pay raise during the freeze. So, at least for now, it's definitely not frowned upon.

like

RF3, no way should anyone be planning for 3-5 yrs without a raise even at a Publicis agency. I've been w/ Starcom for 15+ yrs and 2.5 yrs was the longest period without a raise cycle. My experience w/ promos is that they can certainly be slow but they do fight to keep good people. If you're hearing/seeing differently it's probably BS.

like

Tried and got nothing recently. Typical really.

like

I am with you.

like

Good luck! We are all fighting that same battle unfortunately

like

Takes another offer

like

I'm AD level and I've got 22% rise in 18 months. Be indispensable, and you don't have to threaten leaving. Otherwise, you have to take your chances and as others said, get an offer. But that works only once. The pay freeze stuff is bollocks, they just take care of the people they want to keep.

OP - then leave.

Internally transferred into FDD as an audit senior 3. My coach and partner have indicated that I’m still eligible for promotion to manager based on years of experience. I’m trying to gauge the actual likelihood of this happening. Obviously firms bring in audit managers at the manager level with no FDD experience but would love to know if it’s possible/likely to be promoted to manager with less than a year of experience. I’d advise anyone in audit to transfer sooner rather than later!

Do laterals make you look like you failed to get a promotion? I’m up for promotion, have a great story and strong performance; a good opportunity to lateral came up at a much better firm - but promotions are so random and shrouded in secrecy at my company that I kinda want to join a better firm while I can.

Started a new job on January 25, 2021. Reviews and promotion packets are due at the end of the month. You can only submit a review and promotion packet if you’ve been with the company since December 31, 2020. I’ve gotten very positive informal feedback from my manager and other colleagues. Should I push to have a review/promotion packet now even tho it’s only been 3 months?

Random thought... My gay male context plus the pandemic has amplified the "this isn't worth it" view of my unbalanced work life balance. Do you feel the non-traditional household / income demands that LGBTQIA+ we live with are making you more easily say "enough is enough" with work as the valuation of our time has increased during the pandemic? 🤔

Had an interview where I got a bunch of mixed signals from the VP (this was my 2nd interview) but overall ended off well. However, I haven’t heard anything since. I sent a follow up to the HR manager last Friday and crickets. Should I just write it off as a loss or still hold onto (very minimal) hope.

2nd year associate here. Has anyone made a jump from a boutique firm to big law? I found out that I’m a front runner for a gig with an Amlaw 100. I never thought I’d have this chance having graduated from an unranked law school and still being so junior. Even though the firm asked if I’d be willing to start as a 1st year given my lack of litigation experience, it’s still a monumental upgrade/ jump. I’m nervous about the culture shock and whether I’ll cut it. Could really use some advice!

Is 50% commission a good “salary”? Just received an offer with the following details: - 50% commission. Stepwise increase by 5% for every $5k per month (e.g., 50% of first $5k, 55% of next $5k, etc) (Resets every month) - treated as independent contractor - no health insurance, no 401k - no hour requirement, WFH option, flexible hours - they cover bar dues, CLEs I feel like 50% is very high. Obviously being an independent contractor costs me a bit more, but does this look like a decent deal?
