Pull yourself up by your boots straps they say! I’ve gone through college and gotten myself into massive debt. Since college I’ve kept a full time job and worked side gigs all to feel like my student loan debt is a black whole swallowing up my life. I’m trying to build a nest egg and am finally able to save now that student loan payments are on hold because of the pandemic. I literally feel like there’s nothing left for me. Not from lack of trying. What’s a good solid plan to help me?

So he’s problematic in a lot of ways, but Dave Ramsey’s plan has helped me crush my student loans (I should have them paid off by the end of this year). I can’t stand the guy, but some of his money advice has been really good for me to implement.

Are you looking for a financial plan to get out of debt? The 50-30-20 is a good rule to follow to get a sense of how to tackle your debt. It can take time so be patient and realistic with your goals so you don't get overwhelmed.

Lynn Richardson (black woman) has some great videos on YouTube about how to pay down debt she uses a 10-10-30-50 rule and how to use the tax code to your advantage so your keeping more of your money.

How much is your remaining balance, and what is your interest rate? It might be worth refinancing

If they’re federally held loans, look at options to reduce your payments (IBR, graduated repayment, etc). If private, consider refinancing.

I also agree with taking a good hard look at your budgeting with advice from people like Lynn Richardson or The Budgetnista. It takes time & patience, but you can do this.

You probably need to restructure your debt. (Refinance, IBR, IDR) — of KUMC is a non-profit You May be able to benefit from some sort of public servant program. You can try a few different methods (above mentioned) but at the top of the list is a budget. You probably need to do some serious evaluation of your spending, find areas where you can cut to pummel your debt. Start small and you’ll see a shift.

I was (& still am) in a similar situation. I restructured my budget and went to an extreme- moved home with family to do a reset.
