I have an interview outside my company and will only take a second interview/the job if the pay is right. How hard is appropriate to push to get a firm salary range in a first round interview? I don’t want to waste anyones time or resources if I’d turn down the job for pay at the end

Hi for the folks in Corp tax here, do you recommend financial or non-financial industry? Does financial industry in b4 usually split btw bank, securities, any idea which is more interesting?

I think the quality of tax returns being filed has gone down significantly. One of the reasons is that the “old school” mentality of if you are assigned a tax return you work as many extra hours to complete the return, however people cap their hours and those returns either don’t get done or they are done poorly and it’s better to get filed then to get it late. Leaders in PA need to factor in that the newer generation will not just “get it done” regardless if the amount of extra hours.

Those of you who left for industry, what do you work towards in your role? I was reflecting on my time in public and there was always something, whether it was a new section in the file, getting more client contact, getting invited to a big golf outing, running the jobs, managing the jobs, etc. I worry that leaving would leave me bored and not motivated to hit any sort of goal. I’m burnt out and worry that I’m making a rash decision lol. Thoughts?

I’m a tax senior 1 (will be a senior 2 in October) and just got an offer with a 26% raise at a large public company on their provision team. There’s also an aspect of FP&A and helping with transactions so not strictly tax. All seems super interesting and the team seems great. I really like my EY team and my counselor has talked to me about an early manager promo next year but have never intended to be a PA lifer. Any reason I shouldn’t take it?
