Q for consultant moms. How did you navigate your career post maternity leave/after the 1 year local project limit? Are projects more flexible with travel for mothers? Can any traveling moms comment?

Depends on the project. Talk to them about your situation - many projects will help you come up with a reasonable flexible arrangement even if they don’t advertise it outright

like

I’ve been asking for some flexibility and I’ve been open to what that might look like. So far, I’ve been doing 2 days a week vs 3. I am not sure how sustainable all of this is with a husband with a high pressure career who travels as well, but I’m taking it a week at a time.

Agree w A1. My flex has ranged from shifting the days I flew so I could get home earlier, then to weeks on / off after I’d built some credibility working remote, to then just for major meetings after I laid out how many hours I spent in hallways waiting for a room to open for a mtg, then just for events, I.e. quarterly mtgs or big mtgs.

Most people understand and will try to help, or you also look for / network for roles that work best for life/work. I’ve made some sacrifices, but I balanced that with spouse too

So here is my dilemma:
- based in the UK
- opportunity for lateral internal move (culture&engagement) or stay where I am (reward). I am mid level IC struggling to progress due to flat structure so considering lateral move then hopefully up from there.
- 2 primary aged children, currently have flexibility in current/new role too
- Husband just got accepted on a international rotation which means I will be single parent for the short term.

What to do? Go with the unknown or coast comfortably?

So, I'm happy at my current job and have been there about 18 months. Our pay is probably 15% below market (AmLaw 100) but so are our billable requirements. An interview for another firm kind of fell into my lap, and I'm debating whether to take it just for the sake of seeing what market really is. Is there something shady about interviewing somewhere you're not totally committed to accepting an offer from?

Hi Fishes,

I have given my interview in HCL and cleared 1 TP, 1 hcl manager & Client TP and Client Manager rounds .
In initial screening HR told the generic statement of 30-40% and I have given my ask as 50% minimum. After clearing the rounds I heard from the project team that Client has given great feedback and wanted to take me in .
What is the % I can ask in HR Discussion and will they reject in HR if I ask more now .
I have 9.5 years total experience and role is Storage Architect.
Thanks
