I did it! I got the got the State to drop murder charges on my client a week before trial!! I took a huge gamble and let him talk to the State and tell his story and they believed him (as I did from pretty much our first meeting...he literally was just along for a ride when things turned bad) I had quite a few staring at the ceiling nights with that decision but it worked. My job as a PD is often thankless but today reminded me why I do it!

I spent 8+ years in agency new biz and increasingly felt like a cog in the capitalism wheel, working long hours for causes I didn’t really believe in. Although I enjoyed the thrill and collaboration, I was deeply missing the connection to purpose. So through a series of moves (AMA 👍), I now lead marketing for a sustainable forestry NGO. Any former Big4 attorneys here make a move elsewhere to start practicing law? Or practice to Big4? I’m licensed and been in transactions about 1.5 yrs after school. Considering a move (maybe litigation) but want to make the most informed decision possible with benefits, pay, WLB, enjoyment of practice area, etc.

I know I’ll probably catch flack for this but feel compelled to say it anyway. I get really upset when I see parents teaching their kids to steal on the subway. I swear I’ve seen so many times a parent has their little 4 year old duck under the turnstile and open the door for them. It’s not just stealing $2.75 from the city. It’s stealing from the moral character of your kids. At least pay your way and demonstrate being a lawful contributor to society, kids ride free for a lot of stuff anyway

Fiancée (woman) wants to keep her hyphenated name after her previous divorce because she likes it better and wants to keep using it for her career/personal brand. Fiancé (man) thinks keeping it hyphenated is disrespectful to him, does not see how shortening a hyphenated name detracts from personal branding, would prefer she only use her maiden name going forward, and does not want her to adopt own last name once married. Who do you side with?
