Question for associates, what’s been your biggest struggle since starting work? I’m an associate who can’t get a handle on prioritizing different tasks

Dealing with people who get upset about you not knowing how to do certain work even though you’ve had limited or no training on it. Commuting 2 hours total per day and probably would be worse if I had to now since more people have flocked to my area. It was a 1 hour drive during rush hour yesterday to somewhere that usually takes me 15-20 minutes. So many New York, New Jersey, and up north license plates.

Okay, when you find and apply to a role on LinkedIn, and the recruiter's name and pic is right next to the role. Also send them a message saying that you've applied with a quick intro - yes or no? Is it an opportunity to make personal contact or just an annoyance?

Hey there -

Off the cuff -

My kidlet is a frosh in HS - she has wanted to be a surgeon since she was 3 - the last year or so, she's started specifying trauma surgery.

So... what's a good med school to track into a strong trauma residency? My second dad talks about Presbyterian in NYC as awesome.. but am trying to get an understanding of options to help degap her own research.

What matters?

Thanks a bunch!

Considering a move from EY Tax to BDO tax. Can anyone comment about WLB at BDO and provide any other general thoughts? Would also be great to hear from people who have made the same move.

Soooooo how are those EY bonuses looking? 👀 I heard some ppl are not impressed at all!!

I'm currently completing a tax LLM (as a foreign trained lawyer) but considering pursuing a JD. I'd like to do it part-time while working. Which firm/service line gives me the best chance to do both? Also, is part-time Big4 work even a thing?

Honestly I just want to scream out into the void that I hate that overtime is expected and/or required in public accounting and increasingly in industry too. I don’t think it makes me lazy to want to want to limit my work to 40-50 hours and spend the rest of my time sleeping, working out, with loved ones, etc. There’s too many wonderful things to do in life to spend 55+ hours a week year round working.

People always say Big Four audit is a more logical path to CFO, controller, etc. than tax. Any other typical (or atypical) career paths from Tax?

If you get an offer from a competing firm, is it a bad idea to ask your current firm if they’d be willing to match?

In need of advice. I am wrapping up my masters in accounting while I am working in consulting; however, I am interested in tax. I want to transfer when I finish in May but seems like all the openings posted in ToD seems to be for tax seniors and above. I have pretty strong connections with tax PPMDs but not in my local office (not looking to move). Would it make more sense for me to leave Deloitte for an associate level tax position or take my chances at an internal transfer to tax senior?

Anyone used PwC’s dedicated financial advisors for investment strategies? Any thoughts?

Anyone took CFP exam? How hard is it compared to CPA? And how many hours prep?thanks

As a new hire, what’s the better approach? Go around looking (begging) for billable hours or sit tight at my desk for 8 hours a day and study for the CPA exam?

Hi everyone, two questions. 1. Where can I find PE Tax job postings? Do I have to go through recruiter? 2. I've been heavily focused on partnership tax for about 4 years. What's the chance of me getting a corp tax job?

Quick question: which firms have shared services centers? I know Deloitte and GT have US offices in India and I assume the other b4 do too. I would really appreciate hearing if other mid-size and regional firms do? (Cohen, CBIZ, plante, DHG, etc.). Thanks!

Super random question- any tax folks do their cfa and/or caia by any chance?

Hopefully everyone gets this weekend to rest in preparation for the 10/15 madness that has already started creeping up.

Just applied PwC! Let's see if they are actually working this week. :)

Need some advice here- will be joining Deloitte in the summer and the HR asked my preference over PW/PE or Core Corporate. For those of you in the firm curious which one would you choose and why?

If anyone is thinking about going on flex time, I would highly recommend it. It might not work for everyone, but my experience has been a positive one. I took a 20% pay cut along with 20% reduced hours. I am able to support my family with that income and my firm respects my limited hours, but I still need to plan to make sure I can complete tasks in my reduced hours too. Anyways, if you like what you do, but don’t like the long hours and can take a pay cut, I would do it.

Do I have to file an extension if I’m owed a refund?
