Question for biglaw corporate associates - would you expect a 2018 grad (new 3rd year) to be able to draft all NVCA financing documents without much help from a senior attorney? For M&A, what beyond diligence would you expect a new third year to be able to do?

Looking to lateral - imposter syndrome strikes again making me feel like I may not know enough.

Definitely not, at my firm as a third year, I may take a first crack at drafting but the senior associate takes over the negotiation and drafting during the bulk of the deal.

Ahh thank you very similar to where I’m at - I’ve done some initial drafting and even negotiated once against an opposing partner but I was trippin during it and leaning heavily on the NVCA footnotes 🤣🤣

Hi all. How does one approach about a role change. I found out I got promoted to a senior support manager but the duties are the same as I do now and don’t consist of leadership responsibilities ( I work for a startup and was expecting this). Women who have had kids while working - what was the situation when you were breast feeding? My office uses a supply closet as the “lactation room” and sometimes women would use an empty office at the end of the hall...feels a little cruel to me but maybe that’s how it is everywhere? FYI I don’t have kids yet but thinking about it and the lactation room situation just bothers me for some reason...

So stuck. What do I do? I joined this firm a year ago (4 yrs exp total) to grow/get more court/client exposure. Then 2 more-experienced associates were hired, pandemic, & all cases are divided between the other 2. I have no defined tasks except deficiency letters or the odd pro bono case. Boss claims it's mentoring. I still need to meet bill req.

Last wk Boss said I'll do more & my work was good, but today said I can't 2nd chair bc I don't have experience. I'm doing less now than my prior firm.

When your firm requires billable hours, how are they calculated? Actual vs realized (I.e. what you put on your billing sheet vs what is billed to the client). Does your firm differentiate? Which number do they go by? My mind is somehow not comprehending how some big law hours are under my small firm requirement?
