I did not need an existential crisis at midnight.
I’m in consulting because I don’t know what to do with my life so I picked the job with a little bit of everything
Overall goal is to be Secretary General of UN. I figure I won’t get to that until about 50 at the earliest and I’m 24 now. So I started in consulting to build my people skills and dealing with different environment rapidly. I’ll pick up some technical and negotiating skills here, go to law school, do some general counsel work and then hopefully be rounded enough to start UN.
Pay off MBA loans, find a 9 to 6 that pays 150 to 200: spend time with wife and kids
I sure hope I have the tenacity to stick around to be a lifer. The whole growth curve overall and between certain levels is very intriguing to me. Too early to tell how the transition to BD/selling will go down, but that option is exciting.
Following, I’m 33 and still trying to figure out what I want to do
Same as A1, hoping to be a lifer. I’m a seller, just hoping to do well enough learning in early stages to get me there to bring in the real $. Love my work currently which is why I don’t leave for sales but can’t wait to do both, be a leader and seller
Currently 31, just about to hit the 10 year mark for my consulting career. I agree with the above, I hope and pray I continue to have the same motivation and passion for this job throughout my whole career. I’m striving to hit the PPMD level. The only major variable left unknown is seeing how well I do with pursuit work/sales. The leadership, technology design and client skills are all strong. Just going to continue to learn from those around me and work my ass off to make it to the top.
9 to 6 that pays 150. What is that? Is it real? Id take 130 with 15% travel and 9 to 6. So far ive only seen senior PM getting me there. Is there another way?
D2 - transition to a big tech company, you’ll get that and more!
9 to 6 150k is absolutely real. Isn’t that pretty standard for any corporate VP/upper level sales role? Also isn’t that why people bust it in consulting to land those positions? -obviously hours will vary in crunch times but looking at it overall.
KPMG 1 - Also 33, 1 year in Consulting, definitely don’t know yet. Guys like D1 who have 10 years on me and are 2 years younger than me make me wonder if I should stay in Consulting or not 😟

I guess I have lofty goals lol
D3 - Yeah, its not that far fetched
That's the goal!
