Question for home owners - do you prefer to roll your Homeowners Insurance into escrow and pay over the year? Or do you prefer a 1x payment. My insurance is offering a discount if I pay at once

Pay at once if you’re getting a benefit. I build it into escrow for ease

likehelpful

I prefer to pay my own property taxes and homeowners insurance. My mortgage was sold right at the time tax payments were due, and both the old and new servicer paid my taxes. Then the new servicer tried to jack up my payment to refill my escrow that they had mistakenly taken an extra payment from.

It took me months to sort that out, with both servicers pointing fingers and trying to tell me I had to request a refund from the county to fix their mistake.

At the next refi I chose not to have any escrow, and I just set aside money into a separate savings account every two weeks so I always have it ready when the bill comes.

Ugh that sounds awful

As an FYI- even if you escrow your taxes/insurances- the escrow company will only pay each of them 1x a year- so you should still get the discount OP. Although I prefer to create my own “fake escrow” and then pay each whenever they’re due

like

Not entirely accurate. I've had at least 2 services which paid out twice a year.

I also waived escrow withholding on my house. I get the 1x/yr insurance lump payment benefit, and I get 2% interest while it's accruing in my own savings account. It's not much interest, but I'd rather earn that small % than let the mortgage company earn it. 😉

Received a job offer. Was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on a concern I had about it. It's an entry level position, and I don't have much experience. The billables are 2040 a year. For billable hours in civil litigation and insurance defense, is 2040 hours for a 1st year associate on the high end in this field for a small or midsize firm? It seems like most attorneys I know have minimum requirements of around 1800. The compensation is around 80k a year.

16 weeks and so worried all of the stress I’m under is going to hurt the baby. Between work, my own scary (non-pregnancy) health stuff, the pandemic, my mom (who is a widow and lives alone, basically isolated by choice due to covid) is having health issues, and pressures to keep billable hours up, I’ve been having complete breakdowns. Today I spent almost the entire day crying and now have to make up the billable time this weekend. I really worry abt what effect this will have on the babe.

Hey fishes, i recently dropped my papers and the manager is saying he would initiate a Canada visa. I know to get all this in written and not to go by his word but my question is how practical is the move to go there? I ve a home loan and a 9 month baby and my current CTC is 17 lpa. Will I be able to save to repay loan and afford rent? I have seen the PPP but 160k CAD doesn't seem like anyone would get from a service company for onsite.

If I don't start until 2 weeks from now - will I miss out on all of the stock split benefits?

Hi there - my company is returning to office next month. Hybrid to begin before they ramp up to 5 days back in office by end of year.

I think the fact they want to bring us back 5 days is disrespectful considering how much work we’ve put in remotely over the last year. Not to mention productivity studies say people who WFH (and have no kids) are substantially more productive.

All that being said, does anyone work at a FinTech/Tech company whose RTTO policy is more flexible? Looking to leave

I am going to gross above the 2022 Roth limit, but my MAGI will bring me below the limit based on my maxing out of 401k. Skip the pre-tax 401k in favor of mega Backdoor Roth? Thoughts?

Rationale is building up a tax advantaged nest egg for retirement and then using brokerage for more med term goals (5-8 years). I can afford to pay taxes now and compounding benefit is high.

Income ‘22,190k. ‘23, 295k. Age 26

I would be capturing company match with either 401k contribution. I wouldn’t be maxing out mega Backdoor, probably about 25-30k. Want to put another 50k in brokerages
