Question for people who already exited public, what do you miss about PA? Would you consider coming back?

I miss working 85 hours a week. I miss the stress. I miss the 20 lbs of extra fat I used to have on my body because I never had the time to workout. I miss the stress eating. I miss the taste of that sweet kool aid. I miss the shove in your face liberal politics. I miss the virtue signaling of leadership. I miss the lying to employees. And most of all I miss the *learning opportunities*

People who go back have Stockholm syndrome

I miss the comradery in the audit room during busy season, and I miss being trusted by my teams during the most miserable times. I miss walking into a high stress audit room and then telling everyone to take a deep breath and calm down and fixing the issues with them. And I miss interacting with interns and young staff every day and get that exposure to a younger mindset. However, I’m never going back. I was able to leave the Anxiety and Depression bowl after I quit, so I’d like to keep it that way

I kinda miss working with people who are smart and organized / younger group too. Also miss the overall team environment. I like how I never needed to worry about CPE requirements. Now I have to find CPE material on my own. Don't miss the hours though.

I miss not having to record journal entries and basically just signing off on other people’s work and pretending I added value

I do not miss anything. Life is better outside and not because of the typical more time less stress deal, but because I now have the energy to rebrand myself and change my career path from audit to anything I want to do.

I don’t think I miss anything. I often think what salary id have to be offered to go back to public and an astronomical number wouldn’t cut it for me

I miss my friends, who I still see but less. That's it.

I miss the change of scene from new engagements and client locations, the travel aspect in general (not that there is any currently anyways in PA with covid). Also working with people my age and with similar experiences was nice with each engagement being our “common goal”

I’ve emailed a few recruiters at some NYC agencies I like, but they never get back to me. I wanted to do things the “right way,” but now I’m thinking about bypassing them and reaching out to the CDs and ECDs directly. I care about my career, and staying at my current job won’t help me at all.

Any CDs/ECDs here willing to chat about serious job opportunities?

I've been a dental assistant for 11 years , and I think I'm done . I feel the pay is never enough and 9/10 we do the most work in the office . It's never commensurate to what we do and no matter how much experience you have your still 3-5$ more than someone fresh out of school . It's a skill I'm glad to know that I can always find work but the burnout for nothing isn't worth it. Can anyone relate

Additional Posts in Accounting Exit Opportunities

Hi Bowlers,

Had a few job offers on the table from CPG and Tech (non-FAANG) companies for Senior Analyst type roles.

Without negotiating it seems like Tech pays more, is that true? Or can I still negotiate more with CPG companies?

Thanks,

How did you all decide on what career you want to end up in/think you can tolerate long term?

I'm in audit because I was told it would be a good place to start while I figure out what I career I want. It's been a year now and I still don't know what I want to do, but I do know that I don't want to be in public accounting long term, at least not in audit. If I had an end goal rn it'd be easy to know if I should stay or leave Big4, but my goal was just to get a job lol.

Thanks for the help!
