If it's an everyday/regular status call, schedule it at the optimal time when everyone is in normal business hours - e.g., afternoon EST in this case.
If it's ad hoc with limited availability, yes, sometimes folks will have to dial in before/after hours but this shouldn't happen every day.
Yes. If the client/main office is in EST, then everyone should operate off that, but prob try not to schedule as early if possible
This. The team must work off the schedule of where the work is located. My boss is two time zones behind us. She will dial into early morning meetings if necessary. She keeps her office/computer clocks set to EST
Probably not - work with your teams to push these calls out later to at least 11 am ET if your presence is necessary.
Set hard boundaries and communicate them clearly.
No. 5AM? are you kidding me?
My current team has people in Asia, Europe, and the US. it’s always a crappy time for someone, so we alternate the times throughout the month. It’s not perfect and we understand that sometimes people can’t join, but we try to make the best of it and make sure that someone isn’t always getting the short end of the stick.
We only do meetings from 10am-4pm eastern
One off calls, yes. Re-occurring calls, I draw a hard line at 7am PT.

Team-dependent. Unfortunately if the client schedules calls at inconvenient hours for your workstream, you may need to join. But internally it’s generally understood you don’t join calls before 8a in your local time zone except in specific circumstances
My team is based east coast, but has people in mountain time and pacific time. We try to schedule no earlier than 9 if possible. I'm in mountain and I love it.
I flat out refuse to join our team catch ups at 6am every day despite my em asking me too.
I do join weekly 6am calls with our main client but I’ve communicated with them that I would prefer no earlier than 8am which everyone seems to respect for the most part
Not on my projects. PDT folks don’t call in before 7:30 AM on a regular basis, and EDT people don’t have standing meetings past 6 PM. If it’s a one-off and there’s an urgent need, people are expected to be flexible within reason — but I’ve never given or gotten pushback for declining a meeting that’s scheduled outside standard work hours on short notice.
It’s about expectation setting. I have a team and clients spread all the way from Hawaii to the East Coast and I sit on the West Coast. I do my best to let them know that I will not join a call before 8am PDT and no later then 5pm PDT. In most cases people are receptive, otherwise my standard response is that I have a conflict but can be back briefed if there is an action requiring my attention.

I am based out of the Pacific Coast and work with a client based on the East Coast. We decided to schedule daily standups and other weekly calls at 10:30am ET at the earliest.
