1. Shouldn’t say that it’s fine to charge as many hours as possible. Then when budget went bad, started saying that the seniors/staffs didn’t have good project management skills.
2. Take the time to train the new staffs (both newly staffs and experienced hires). We know nothing about the company’s systems and way to do things.
3. Being more understanding. Stop comparing new people with the team’s star performers at the same level. New people need time to adjust and everybody really do learn at different speed.
Just a few of my thoughts. Though, I doubt companies will change. Only star performers can stay, the rest who cannot deal with the constant competitive rating, will stray.
New staff and experienced staff sometimes don’t have the real technical skills that you are looking for so taking the time to really teach the concepts. I know some people do this not but everyone.
Also teaching / practicing how to lead client calls and other types of presentations.
I wish that people had actually listened to what we said more. There were a few people that were horrible incharges but were good from a technical perspective (that doesn’t necessarily translate well into being a good teacher or leader). When people brought it up, no one listened and gave stupid excuses for the incharges. It wasn’t until a staff had a blow up with one incharge and the staff quit that managers and above actually realized how horribly the incharges were treating some of the staff.
