Question for the big-4 partners & principals, relative to the previous years ,was there a big jump in per share or per EPU(earnings per unit) for FY21? associated to operational spend reduction was significant is my understanding. Secondly do you expect that to stay in the coming years or drop back to the normal levels / progression ? it seems like per the earning seemed to hit the targets and expenses down.

I think for all of us the recovery from last summer’s COVID recession was quicker and more robust than we expected.

I don’t think reduced operational spend made much of a difference. We’re top line businesses and our main cost is headcount. Not having internal trainings where we fly people around anymore is a drop in the bucket, and salaries have gone up significantly.

I’m not sure what you mean by “normal levels”. We’re always trying to grow, and we would want that growth to continue.

For us it was both top and bottom line-driven, and we expect the growth to continue.

It also says there may be financial penalties.

Hi tax 🐠,

I have a question for those who prep individual tax returns. My parents claim my grandfather as a dependent on their tax return and due to their low income, receive PTC for the premiums they pay on his insurance (not eligible for medicare). However, would it be advantageous to have him file for his own tax return (he stays with my parents and doesn't have his own proof of residency via bills). If so, can he get PTC if his income is 0?

I read that you can tax deduct medical expenses not covered by insurance (incl. IVF treatment, meds, acupuncture, etc.) for the amount that exceeds 7.5% of your gross income.

Do you know if you need to deplete your HSA funds first? Or can I just keep that as is for the future and tax deduct my IVF related medical expenses incurred this year on my upcoming return?

Thank you!

I’ve been asked to serve as chair for a non-profit. I don’t have time and this is a dysfunctional board (many board members with a tie to the mission of the organization but w/o relevant experience). However, there aren’t many options and I feel obligated. I’m considering it, *if* I can put some guardrails in place to minimize the dysfunction and stay out of the weeds. That’s a huge if. I feel a little crazy saying this, but more money at this point doesn’t resonate. I see a ton of exit planning and boomerang threads here, but I’d take a 50% pay cut (or a 50% raise) for an exciting role. That’s totally privilege talking, but I just can’t imagine chasing extra money in PE or lateraling just for the money. No virtue signaling here at all. I actually worry on some level that I’m somehow a moron for not giving a thought to maximizing earnings.
