Question for the group: once you hit FIRE, what do you plan to tell people when asked what you do for a living? I feel like so much identity is wrapped up in career, job, what you do etc. that it could get awkward trying to explain FIRE to people. Genuinely curious how people approach this.

I‘ve read „freelance consultant“ is the way to go. Usually shuts people up because no-one knows what it means.

Complete honesty: I was very frugal and planned far in advance during my early career because I knew I wanted to retire early. Was fortunate to have a prosperous career, and can now read, bake, get outside, see concerts, and spend all the time with family and friends that I want!

Yeah unfortunately they subconsciously assume it’s your husband, or if single they assume you have an ex husband thats paying your lifestyle.

Hi all,

I am data engineer with 3.8 YOE. I have offers from Accenture (11.5), tcs (11 LPA), wipro (14 LPA) and Publicis sapient (15 LPA).

Now I'm not so good at coding.

But confused bw
-->joining sapient for the sheer fact they would give me a big data project for sure but I fear that they may fire me for my sub par coding skills.

--> joining wipro for the job security, but fear thay if I don't find any big data projects, they may put me in testing/support.

Can someone help in choosing ?

Hi Folks,

To those who are thinking of resigning without an offer, I seriously advise you not to do so. I resigned in July due to a hectic (you can call it toxic) work culture and was confident enough to get another offer. But nothing materialized, no calls, savings money almost depleted with the EMIs, hard lesson learned!

Please try to resign only if you have an offer in hand or you're financially sound enough to survive without a job for at least a year! Cheers!
