I mean… obviously, yes. And it’s not zero risk for you. But on the scale of moral transgressions it’s not *that* bad, considering.
That’s why if you buy with an Amex, you’ll have better luck disputing the charge if something untoward should happen.

Is the AD you usually use in your area and they just don’t have the model? If so, see if your AD can get it in stock without commit to buy. Shouldn’t be too hard, unless it’s a super premium piece.

They have many of the brands I like or would eventually like to have in my collection, so want to keep the relationship strong especially for brands like Rolex and Patek. No ADs near me carry the breadth of brands they have. My family still lives in the area so I go back 2-3 times a year.

The online guys are super specific about returns. They won’t accept them if the watch has been worn - not sure if that means taking it out of the plastic or not.
If you end up liking it and want to buy from your AD but can’t return it, nbd. If you don’t like it and then can’t return it … SOL. Have any upcoming travel where you’ll be near a dealer and can try it on?

My AD did say “we can ship it to you and you have 10 days to return” so I think he was leaving the option open which made me think it wouldn’t be too frowned upon but I want to try both a medium and large so I can’t really have that option if I order one
