Hi does anyone have any good TV show recommendations? Some shows I’ve really liked are Lost, Normal People, Sharp Objects, Handmaids Tale, The Politician, Sex Education, Outer Banks, Unorthodox, Alias Grace, Queen’s Gambit, Parks and Recreation, Arrested Development, and The Office. Thanks!!!!
Yes. I have a HDHP and get the negotiated rates
This. Now, that is not to say that the negotiated rates are the same as they would have been on the other network - they are independent so could be the same or not. But yes my HDHP absolutely has negotiated rates; you don’t pay “sticker price.”
Yes there are still negotiated rates. I have a UHC HDHP. Got hit by a car last year so had many injuries. Hospital bill was like $35k. Negotiated rates brought it down to $20k. I paid the max out of pocket of $7k and UHC paid the rest.
Also I work in health insurance. Fairly positive that the negotiated rates are the same as the regular PPO plan
The negotiated rates are the same as a traditional PPO only if the HDHP is accessing the same PPO network. There are HMO and POS network HDHPs so it’s not guaranteed.
Iam on HDP plan with wife and two kids. You need to make sure you have the out of pocket amount 7k in your account for emergency cases. When you start the HDP plan, first year is the high risk one do put more money in it and then you can reduce if needed. Also we do get negotiated rates for sure. I should say Deloitte has one of the best insurance plans in comparison to others for both low and high deductible plans.
Deloitte offered HDHP is definitely not the best lol (former benefits broker speaking) there are firms out there offering no copay/coinsurance after minimum HDHP threshold deductible. Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think the Deloitte plans are that generous.
An example is that my son was in an accident and hospital charged $30,000 for all the visits. We paid $400 and insurance paid $2,500. The hospital discounted the rest of the charges because of its negotiated rates with the fancy health insurance.
Would we have been charged $30k if we had a high deductible plan?? Then we would’ve paid $14,000 for an out of pocket maximum?? Or are there still negotiated rates that maybe aren’t as good as the expensive insurance that would still have brought it down? Thank you!!
Think of the plans and the networks separately. In this scenario, if both plans (traditional and HDHP) had the same network the hospital would charge the same amount to your insurance. What you pay out of pocket now depends on the plan. Obviously with an HDHP you’d have an higher OoP liability due to the deductible and likely higher OoP Max, but the theory here is that you’ve saved money with premiums and have put aside funds to cover this expense pre-tax...hope that’s helpful
I’m curious what you are asking about. Are you trying to ask if a non-high deductible plan is better than a high deductible plan? Or if no insurance is better? Either way you (1) need to be enrolled in a high deductible plan to be eligible for contributing to an HSA; and (2) insurance negotiates either way. They want to pay the least amount possible always.
You should be able to find out from the insurance company what the rates or plans are. I would also assume negotiated rates are the same but would always confirm.
I’ve had 2 kids and a family on High deductible plan and HSA and still came out ahead. I ran some scenarios years ago and there were only very few circumstances for me where the regular plan would be better. I hit out of pocket max for the family once or twice also (birth, newborn in nicu).
