I mean it's a thing, but people support TEAM USA
For immigrants and first generation citizens who're from Europe and Asia/latin countries where football is popular there's a huge support
I had some water cooler talks but people aren't as involved as they are about football, but still there's some interest
Yes and no. Team USA support is very young, frail, inexperienced, and forced. It's really a seasonal thing here. Soccer outside of the WC season is nonexistent. Most of the real hype is from immigrants like myself.

Overall World Cup hype in the United States, in my experience, falls after the nba all star game and exists somewhere between Winter Olympics and the Kentucky derby
Rising Star
By and large that’s exactly it
Pro
US people watch it to complain how bad the men are when they don't win, and complain how poorly paid the women are when they do win. As with everything in America, they politicize it, apply some woke-ism BS to it, and ultimately destroy the fun of it.

Who knew that watching butch women play wouldn't crush it at the box office? Watching Taylor swift twerk on the other hand...
They killed it when they introduced it as a girl’s sport without giving the Mens team time to develop a healthy and strong fan following. Of course, the suburban soccer-mom-culture didn’t help the image and the push for social justice/equal pay put the final nail in it.
It's football, and yeah ppl follow some games
Never watched a single minute of World Cup in 32 years of life

Small group in my office have brackets built out
Not as NBA or NFL. But the US is hosting next edition. So it is definitely a thing here, just not as big as US sports
We have it playing on a large screen in the office and leadership doesn't mind. We have a diverse team so people from all over the world and are cheering for their home country
It is followed in some circles, but in wouldn’t say it’s mainstream or popular. From what I’ve seen more Americans follow NBA, NFL, and even college sports than anything soccer related.
I think if USA started winning people would watch

I’m only watching because it’s the only sporting event on at 9am. I immediately switch to actual football when it starts
Fascinating thread on the genealogy of football, American football, rugby, and some smaller English local games https://twitter.com/steve_sailer/status/1594455321522491392
It is virtual water cooler discussions as my team made up of global footprint and always great conversation. That said not as big as College or PRo Football in US. As for NBA, personally could care less.
I have watched / listened to every game so far. For people who understand and appreciate the beauty of the game, of course it’s a real thing. Can’t wait for 2026.
Kind of. It’s not as big but some of our offices stream it in the common areas and there’s a global kick tip league.
Nobody cares about the World Cup. 90 minutes of boredom for nil-nil. UGH
