Question:
If you had a secret clearance, but take a job where all you need is public trust. Secret will not be active anymore.

If you are looking for jobs that require a secret clearance, can you say "yes, you have one" since the investigation is good for 10 years?

Seems kinda gray since current job doesnt have it, but there is an investigation out there good for 10 years. Anyone know?
Thanks

If your clearance is no longer in use, it will stay current for 2 years or the expiration of your BI, whichever comes first. During the current time period, it's easy to reactivate, but after that 2 year window it expires, regardless of how much time is left on the 10 year BI window.

Just list that you have a current Secret.

Thanks for the reply, appreciate it

When asked, I usually provide my last investigation date and type of investigation. I had more than a 2 year break during grad school, but my clearance was still good to go once I started using it again. I think it had to do with whatever my last company or government agency did with not taking me off their books or whatever right away, so you never know until you look in the system.

Makes sense. Thanks for reply, appreciate it.

This is more of a rant than anything but advice is welcome. I’m so fed up with my manager micromanaging everything. We miss client deadlines frequently because deliverables are backlogged under their review, they make comments on things they weren’t in client discussions about, and won’t listen when told client wanted it X way. I’m at a loss for what to say to them because I’ve tried repeatedly to fix this to no avail.
