I have a 7 year old and I have been looking for remote options too. I don’t think any age is non-pivotal, and I want to be there for my kid through all of it !
100% agree with you! As moms, this rings true through and through. I’ve always felt this way at every age—every age has been the most important to date 😃 hope you find the remote role that fits!

The Market isn’t all so bad, I have been getting decent call backs.. it’s just the summer which is likely slowing it down.
Ahhh yes I see
I honestly just could not being in office. The things my teen needs were frequently during my work day and I didn’t have the flexibility to leave and take care of things and oftentimes didn’t even have time to eat let alone answer a call or text from her. My husband ended up quitting his job to be a stay at home parent until I found something fully remote.
I’m with Baker Tilly.
for real?!... I thought they were less maintenance as they got older. 😫 for sure thought they would be more hands off in teenage years maybe other than driving to extracurriculars

Maintenance in different ways. You don't need to feed them, clean them, and hand hold as much, but you do need to be emotionally and physically available to build a strong foundation and close relationship with them. Teen years are so hard and the last thing they need is a volatile home environment and busy frazzled parents who don't have time to give.

She is in school for ~7hrs per day, no? Even if you work in office for 8hrs and have a 30 min commute each way you shouldn’t be missing that much of her life. She could be doing chores or homework during that time or chilling with friends.
I find that quality > quantity when it comes to spending time with people, especially M-F. When I’m with my kids I try to have my phone put away or charging so I’m engaged with them.
Here’s an example of a different situation. My daughter does online school, so while she may be in school for 6 hours or so during the day, being home allows me to take uninterrupted time during my work day to be available if she needs help, to do her PE activities with her, and for us to have lunch together. It’s not simply having more quantity of hours. It’s also about my day to day being organized in such a way that the time is quality time and I’m not so stressed or busy that I can’t fully engage with her.
If you are unable to successfully locate a role that is fully remote, some companies are extremely flexible which allows parents to be available when needed. 😁 Good luck either way! It's always difficult finding the perfect fit.
Thanks for the information! Would you mind naming any flexible companies?
From experience, I do know that Beacon Hill Staffing was quite flexible during my time there from 2020-2021. I was in tech.
I feel this. Mine is 13 and I am transitioning to a remote job right now. It's not my ideal - I prefer hybrid- but it's five years till she graduates and I want to make the most of that time. The new job requires only a 40 hour (flexible) work week and my current, hybrid job requires about 55-60 per week with plenty of evenings and weekends. It took a couple years to find the new job but hang in there and keep looking - it's worth it.
Just wanted to jump in to say that my mom worked full time when I was 15 (worked full time all through my middle school and HS years, raising my sister and I as a single mom) and we turned out great because of it. Both driven and successful female leaders with happy lives. So I’m sure no matter where you land you will be a great example to her.
Thank you for sharing your experience! It’s awesome to hear that it strengthened you and your sister. Similarly my mom was a single mother while I was in high school, working a full time corporate job and then a part time role as a caretaker for disabled adults on nights and weekends. I’d say that experience made me strong, independent and tough as well but there were downsides. Noting that we could always argue two sides to every coin :) thank you so much for the encouragement!
