Question on on labor laws in the US:

Received an offer from Amazon but I'm concerned about negotiating hard and ending up with an offer that's on the higher end of the pay band when compared to the rest of the (future) team. My concern is during an economic downturn, it would be easier to let me go if the team needs to be downsized. This would be because I would have the least experience on the team & more expensive to retain from a cost perspective.

My concerns valid? #amazon #aws #faang

Why is this a question about labor laws in the US? If you’re the most expensive and least experienced person, yes you can be the first one fired in a downturn. How big a concern is this? …who knows.

like

Yup. That is a legitimate concern. The same concern you would have at other places too. Just focus on proving your value. Not much you can control beyond that. Free market at work here. It’s more likely they let go someone that is underperforming at a level way lower than you before they get to letting you go.

Use the imposter syndrome to learn more and look for ways to add value. Also it helps that Amazon is cash rich, so will be able to navigate through economic down-cycles much better than most tech companies.

like

Thanks this is reassuring. The team is short staffed and I was told I really did well in my loop. I want to use this as leverage to make sure I'm not leaving $ on the table.

But the imposter syndrome is hitting me hard. As my new compensation will be 2X my current compensation.

Not at all. Grab as much cash as you can. Your only risk mitigants here are for you to prove your superior technical value and build a good leadership network

I wouldn’t worry too terribly much. AWS will still grow revenue even during a prolonged downturn. AWS is also hiring considerably slower already.

Note I perceive AWS as being a stack rank culture today. Also, perennially short staffed with mediocre wlb. I dont see their cloud business as having recession based layoffs

Hi, does anyone have any ideas regarding dietitan salary in Arizona (Phoenix area). I asked for several openings there, and found out several of those full time RD positions pay by salary, not hourly. Even happens in an acute care/hospital setting. I thought RD position is paid by hourly pay in a hospital, at lease from where I leave now. Is it some Arizona thing?

Here's the situation.
I'm a freelance accountant. I have several part time clients, and one main 30-40/hr/week client. This is about the big one. The company has two co-presidents, but for the sake of clarity I'll call the person I directly report to the COO and the other the CEO - note the CEO also is the founder of the company. Again, I report to the COO. The COO is "working" in exchange for greater equity in the company and a crap ton of pay along the way. Cont.

Years ago, I heard that the rule of thumb for salaries in Big Law was 1/3 of an associates total billables.

If true, does this generally apply to smaller law as well? And how do benefits and bonuses factor in?

I'm coming up on my 1-year anniversary at my small firm and I want to understand how salary-to-billables is customarily viewed in the legal community.

I know this is a really subjective question, but looking for some high level guidance. How should I think about the point below which it doesn’t make sense to launch a startup?

E.g. Some back of the envelope math for my notional SaaS product would see 50-70 enterprise customers (in the first few years) buy an annual license at say $20,000 each. That’s only $1.2M revenue. Total addressable market is low thousands of customers (but maybe with multiple licenses per). Not sure it’s worth it?

Then had a partner interview and the partner was a bit rude and disrespectful throughout the course of the interview.. wondering if this is common practice to assess how you deal with pressure? The partner did mention a few projects they would want me working on .. so it sounded like an offer was coming.
