Lol, PMs aren’t allowed to have egos 😕
I’m OK with it, I hate spotlight but I love filling the supportive-mom roles of life. Guide it then slowly back into the shadows ~whoooosh~
If only they all knew a day without....
Yep, story of my life. I'm an after thought in everything from project recognition to in person client meetings and dinners. It's like we don't exist.
But I'll tell you what, let the rest of them go a month with out us, and they'll realize we are reason sh*t gets done and on time might I add.
Hell yes!
My need for praise is met in two ways - my project teams actively acknowledge my contributions to their successes, and the PM department celebrates wins and strongly promotes cross team learnings (i.e. by PMing successful teams I’m recognized as an expert and coach to others). If your teams aren’t giving you any credit for their successes (even privately) you may want to look for new teams.
Project Managers are the last to receive credit when everything goes right. But they’re the first to blame when everything goes wrong.
Comes (or doesn't) with the territory.
Success has many fathers/mothers. Failure is an orphan.
I PM’d a pitch we won and PMd the biz. When first campaign went live I wasnt on the creds list when the all agency email went out and my ecd and acct director directly emailed me to apologize (without prompt) and I was sent on a corrected creds list and have never been left off a list since. We’re not traditionally who you think of when it comes to cred, and in a lot of cases we’re the type of people who want to support in all ways and don’t need the cred, but is nice to know everyone’s proud to have you on their team. Keep doing what you do, do it well, and if you’ve got good people around you they’ll notice when you’re not on the list.
It's not OK. Keep fighting the fight, and get attention for all the hard work you do.
We work in the shadows.
I have never met a PM that needed praise to be fulfilled, but totally get you. It would be nice once to get some acknowledgement once in awhile.
I'm a Senior PM. And I do need it to stay motivated because I love helping people. Mostly it comes from my clients and project teams from personal thanks. To know that I've made my clients or resources lives easier by updating/ changing project schedules, that's what keeps me going. But I would also love an occasional public compliment. So that the rest of the company knows how much my clients and team members appreciate me.
