Quick question ya’ll: How much accrued PTO is normal? Is “up to 5 days accrued PTO” bad?

The idea of ‘accrued’ PTO is outdated as a whole. I would advise negotiating against it and in favor of a straight number like two weeks.

like

This is a very small amount of PTO. Where are you located? Is this a new grad or entry level role? I wouldn’t accept an offer with less than 20 days accrued PTO / year.

Its a startup but they just offered me $115k instead…its an entry level PM role

That feels super low.

Question about PTO - my contract says 25 days but is this inclusive of any office shutdown over Christmas/New years (if there is one?). In Sydney office if that provides some context. Thanks!

A parent of one of my students told admin she thinks it's irresponsible that I won't be grading over Christmas break. I let the students know to get any work they need graded in before the break and I'll get it to it during our workdays in January. Apparently that's not fast enough for her 🙄. Is it wrong that I'm sort of pissed off by this? Should I say something?

Is it unethical as realtors working in an office to block chunks of time off for personal reasons? Some of my coworkers stay in their desks for up to 10 hours, but I've taken up the habit of blocking at least 1 hour daily for lunch, breaks, and other issues that may arise. Do you do this as well or do you prefer to work straight through your day?

Hi all, I’m a mom of 2 (2.5 years and 9 months). I’ve been with IBM five years as a data scientist and more recently as a product manager. I’ve been doing a lot better lately but I’m feeling these rejections are starting to get to me. Any PMs out there willing to share any advice or connect with me 1x1?

I’ve always gotten the advice that when you want to switch jobs you should take interviews from places you’re not actually interested in, so you can understand your value in the market and have better negotiating power.

I’m doing that rn - took a couple interviews to gauge my skills, my market value, and see what I need to work on for interviews that I actually care about.

However, I feel really guilty about wasting their time and going all the way knowing I’ll just say no at the end. Wwyd?

I work on a small 4 person remote team- 2 peers and our manager. My 2 peers were recently hired and started in February this year. I actually trained them since I have held that position (Manager). I have been at the company for 6 years and moved to a Sr. IC role. My skip-level was previously my direct manager. My manager told us about a plan to meet up in person this summer for team building. It slipped in a meeting today that everyone but me is included in going. More in comments.

I received a job offer for a PM position with a base of $125K and a 10% bonus, fully remote and ok benefits. The parental leave is pretty bad, just FMLA and STD/LTD so the most I’d get is 60% of my salary for 12 weeks. I’ve cancelled most of my interviews except for one where the pay is $135K, 20% bonus, hybrid schedule, good benefits and 16 weeks fully paid parental leave. I’d like to start my family in a year or two - is it better to take the remote gig or the hybrid role with full paid leave?

How to politely decline unsolicited advice? A colleague of the same pay grade as me is leading a task and I am helping him with it. He keeps giving me unsolicited suggestions and feedback in shared chat, and he blamed me for something in a group call. I am scared that this is making me look bad in front of others when I am doing all the work assigned the best I can. How do I let him know I don’t want his advice? Is it okay if I ignore his advice or will it come off as rude?
