I think it would be WILD for anyone to expect you to learn how to do a job in a week. The first few weeks are usually just introductions, shadowing, a day in the life kind of stuff. I don't feel like I was independent in my role for probably 3-6 months. Some companies come with a lot of history as well and take quite some time to understand the culture.
First, congratulations on completing your academics and entering your preferred company and industry! Secondly, a single week for learning the company and industry is unrealistic. In my experience, 2-4 months is the “brake-in period.” Based on the job position, companies will have different lengths of time planned for new hires.
Echoing the comments above. I think it’s fine to be realistic about those time lines and honest about the things you don’t know. But pair that with great communication on your drive and willingness to dig in to learn anything. Don’t try to oversell your experience.
Absolutely no one should be expecting you to know how to do your job in one week, especially if it's entry level. You'll be given more to do and have more independence as time goes on and you really find the flow of your work.
A week oh god no, when I lead a team of developers they will not commit code or make changes for the first month after joining the team.
That's because they have to learn the system, produce code in small projects that show they understand how integration is handled within the project, how the tests are written etc.
A week, no that's far too soon to expect anything from anybody unless the job is so easy you'd be able to learn it in a few days.
