I wouldn’t even notice
As an undergrad hire in my team, I see some of my colleagues in my age group with them, and I know they can’t afford that themselves, so it honestly makes me question how much their family makes and whether they got the job through connections
I get jealous because I’ve been trying to get one for retail for 2+ years.
I’m a watch guy and I bought a watch to celebrate every major moment of my adult life (1. First 6 figure job, 2. McKinsey offer, 3. Wedding). I kind of want a Rolex now just to have one in the portfolio.
As my watches are tied to moments in my life, they’re not investments but a reminder of a time I was proud of.
Currently early 30s
I would not even know. #grewuppoor

I almost certainly wouldn’t notice. All I know about watches is Apple Watch vs Not Apple Watch.
Too true 😂
If it ain’t Phillip Patek or Richard Mille I don’t notice
What about a Cie and Moser H.?

Does anyone under the age of 50 wear a Rolex?
I got my first when I was 24 and the second one this year. I’m currently 25.

I'd be all, "ooh, wow. You spent thousands on something that does the exact same thing my $35 Timex does."
Clarity Management, 4/20 was yesterday. What are you smoking? Deloitte is a great firm. What the hell is clarity management anyway 💀🪱☠️🦐

Either:
1) Really into watches
2) Financially irresponsible
3) Clueless trust fund baby
A mix of conversation and context before they get their category… but I really couldn’t care less which one it is
I think 1 and 2 are highly overlapping. I’ve seen my share of 3…

Stay strong Alix, I'm with you.
“Wow, that’s an ugly watch”
I’m a self-identified watch guy (vintage & modern omegas, Tudor, Vacheron, doxa, Sinn), and I probably wouldn’t start a conversation with someone wearing a sub, GMT, or DJ. The broad appeal as a status symbol means the person maybe doesn’t care that a Rolex is technically impressive.
I feel like I start the conversation bc I’m a watch guy, but you can quickly tell their level of watch enthusiasm. Vintage Dj 1601 (or if the have a new one at least know about other references). Ppl that wear subs tend to just a little more status hunters, but again do you know the history or have a cool reference. But also, there is something to just having the money and wanting it so I don’t really mind it too much
My favorite watches in my collection cost 2-4x my submariner - I love wearing each piece, depending on my mood.
To everyone issuing an opinion, I can confidently say there exists a subset of watch collectors that wear their watches - not for attention - but for themselves. I don’t want or need your approval or judgement. I buy what I like, I wear what I like. So, this conversation is kind of moot, right?
I judge you that much more harshly for wearing expensive jewelry “for yourself”. But that’s ok, you don’t care about our opinions
Nice watch, how long did you “express your interest” for?
And did the authorized dealer wear protection while you were expressing your interest?
Sex god.
@d9, Ha- i dont own one, but good job at making all guys look shallow. (;
- A WIS without one will feel jealous and immediately post their Omega/Panerai for sale online and start hunting for the cheapest Rolex they can get - weird color combo OP from 2012 that no one wants
- Most strangers will wonder how you are rocking a fake from FB marketplace so confidently
- Others wearing a modern steel Rolex will constantly wonder if you’ve got it from an AD or the grey market
- Folks wearing older Rolexes will feel poor and immediately assume this is a graduation present from daddy
- PP / AP guys will smirk at your poverty. RM guys are at the strip club and definitely not where you are
- $35 timex wearing dudes will think poor asset allocation and constantly talk about the shitcoins they’ve invested in instead
- Apple Watch enthusiasts are too busy dismissing notifications or searching for a charger to care
- You, the wearer will be happy with the inches your Rolex adds with all the attention you’re getting, good or bad

Expensive watches are designer purses for men. Low effort high priced status signalling.
Totally superfluous when you've got that 🟢 swag

C7, so now you’re questioning my judgement on subtle? Ok.
A lot of Rolex watches are not at all flashy. I noticed my friend’s inherited Rolex that she wore every day literally 10 years after knowing her.
Cute watch - hope he remembered to fix it for daylight saving time.
I’d rather adjust my watch for daylight savings time twice a year (and won’t even have to do that 2023 onward) than have to charge my watch every day lol

I like watchmaking so I would probably think it’s cool
I can’t say I’ve ever noticed someone’s watch brand but if I ever did realize someone was wearing a Rolex, I’d think they have boring taste in expensive things and not give it too much thought beyond that
