Have you thought about taking medical leave?

likesmart

Thank you for the support. It truly means a lot to me at this moment. Me and my partner are excited, scared and anxious all at the same because we are high risk for a birth defect. For now, I am going to take a few days off and think.

likesmart

If you're unsure, is there a possibility of doing an LoA instead? If not, remember that there are always lots of companies and lots of jobs out there and they will be there when you're ready for them. The right decision changes based on the time and situation, but you have thought about this and have decided this is the right decision for right now. You're not deciding your whole life, just deciding that right now quitting is the right move for you.

So sorry you feel overwhelmed and sorry for your previous loss (I’ve been there- it’s the worst 😭)
I would take some time off - sick days, pro etc to really think this through.. both emotionally and logically. Is EY really the only cause of stress? What factors are within your power to change etc..
I’m not sure about you but having good insurance through the pregnancy to birth gives a peace of mind that you might lose if you quit now..
If you can find less stressful projects or get an LOA and figure out the next 26 weeks, you get to enjoy a healthy baby and hopefully decent parental leave...
Also, talk to people- you’d be surprised at where you might find allies and how supportive they can be
Good luck and wish you a healthy and safe pregnancy

like

So sorry to hear this, OP. That sounds very overwhelming indeed. Are you sure this is the decision you want to make? At the very least it might be worth taking a medical LoA and coming back to work when you’re ready. EY is a great form and also offers amazing maternity leave compared to other firms. If your leadership is supportive you could come up with a transition plan or see if there is a way you could WFH part time, etc. Just know that there are lots of options and no matter what you decide is best for you, we support you.

like

Don’t quit - doesn’t their health insurance cover you for bed rest etc?

like

My BFF at EY had a high risk twin pregnancy and was on bed rest starting at 20 weeks. The firm supported her and actually paid her salary, I do not think she took a LOA until she started maternity leave. I don't remember the specifics but you should definitely talk to HR before quitting to understand all your options. Happy to find out the details for her in how it worked if you'd like, DM me and I can provide info. Hang in there, sending positive thoughts your way for your health and the babies.

I lost my first child due to a birth defect last year and so when I knew I was overwhelmed. I also came to know I am diabetic on the same day !!! I just couldn’t handle so much happening so soon.

like

I haven’t been in your shoes and I can’t imagine how difficult it is to go through what you’re experiencing- I’m so sorry. From my perspective, I’d recommend taking a LoA or some other type of extended leave to allow yourself to “turn off” work, clear your head, and most importantly take care of yourself. You can always quit even during/after a LoA but you keep more options open long-term.

smart

Sending love OP, my heart breaks for what you’ve gone through and are going through. I echo suggestions to take a LOA, but would say you should start by just calling in sick tomorrow and taking the day to rest, breathe, really gather your thoughts and explore alternatives / list out your needs/ conditions that if they were met might perhaps allow you to stay at EY and under company insurance (not sure if that is a factor for you, but certainly sudden loss / change in coverage might add to more stress). They cannot discriminate against you for being pregnant, and I would say it might be worth giving it a shot to see if something can be worked out. I would say figure out who your coach / leaders are that you have a good relationship with and you trust, or HR and just ask for help to problem solve and create the environment / conditions you need to feel supported. Please don’t go it alone. Sending strength and love your way, and remember we are rooting for you.

like

OP - good on you for taking a few days to think about this. Just curious, how do you know your baby is at risk? Did you take the counsyl test or did your NT exam show this? I ask simply because I know how hard it is to be pregnant after a loss. You think that every little thing is going to go wrong again. If you did have a positive screening result or if you haven’t then I still agree with the others - take some time and then talk with your leadership you trust about what options you have. Give the firm a chance to support you before you throw in the towel. They may come back and offer you an option that would be comfortable for you or even leave. I know Huron would support you in this and I hope EY would too. Sending lots of support your way!! PS - I’m pretty close to same pregnancy timing as you following a miscarriage with my last.

like

Sending lots of hugs and healthy wishes for you and your loved ones!

Please take a leave of absence. The firm will support you, I have had three high risk pregnancies with the firm.

Surely stay around for the maternity leave?

Sending you love and support OP! ❤️

Sending you lots of love and proud of you for taking a step back to prioritize your baby and your body.

I've had a second trimester loss, just 3 weeks after starting at the firm. The anniversary is coming up in a few days. I know that pain all too well.

I know the firm will support you. Get a doctor's note, LoA. I think you'll be able to rest easier knowing you have more options and insurance once you give birth. Just my 2 bits.

Whatever you decide, it sounds like you're putting your baby first, and that's what matters.

Don’t quit now!! Take as much time as you need and use PTO, medical leave. Be kind to yourself and set boundaries with your leadership and max out all those benefits you worked so hard for!! Have the baby, use all your maternity leave and then decide. (I should mention I’ve had high risk pregnancies and miscarriages and while the going was rough, I never quit- just cut back and stayed home/grounded and took care of me and babies to be). Please take care of yourself first and everything else will fall into place.

I feel like no one ever talks about low milk supply while trying to breastfeed. I’m a FTM and it was an unexpected pregnancy so as you may understand I didn’t know the several intricacies of pregnancy. Pregnancy was smooth and delivery as well, but postpartum has been a real bitch in terms of breastfeeding and in general bc of the hormones too. Ugh just needed to vent bc I feel like OBs need to be more educative of the process

Seeking some legal advice: under the current travel restrictions, is there any way to get my parents to enter the country and visit? I am a German with permanent residency and they would only come here on ESTA. Reason is that my child will be born soon and I really want my parents to visit as early as possible. I heard under special circumstances immediate family would be eligible for a National Interest Exception but the event probably won’t qualify them. Any tips?

My husband and me have to move to a different city and right after we finalized the house we found out we are expecting our first baby. We will be getting the house at 25+ weeks pregnant. I have an option to either move then or move 2 months after the baby is here. Really confused if we should be moving before or after. We’ll end up paying mortgage for 2 houses for 6 months if we move after the baby is here. And if before then it would be stressful to find new doc etc in new city. Any thoughts?
