I do not remember ever meeting you. I do not remember you being introduced to me. You do not speak for me. You do not get to tell me, a professional for 26 years, how I need to treat my students. My students are always surprised to find out I'm usually the only "white" person. In the room. Why? Because I treat ALL of my students with respect. I treat them as human beings. I teach them with love. So, until you meet every "white" person AND spend some quality time in Appalachia, please do not tell people how to act or react.
i think I understand your POV, TH 1. I understand that this is a very controversial and emotional subject right now. So, if this doesn't apply to you and doesn't have anything in it that you can reflect on and use, then it's not speaking to you. That's all you have to say. In general, we all must listen to each other and validate each other's experiences. I'm sure there are things that we could learn about growing up in Applachia, too. I think those people do not feel heard or validated. Just that they are doing things wrong and the BLM is the only issue.

I reread the article twice looking for what angered TH1, I don't see it.
I don't see a tone that is objectional. So I'll ask, TH1, what's got you mad? Also, what does Appalachia have to do with it?
The only little part that has me twisted is the regardless of content everyone needs to teach ... statement the author made. I teach upper division Maths, I don't have time for my students to go to an assembly let alone take time to teach social justice.
True equity is not a lesson taught as a unit, it is a righteous way of life. I promise you this, treating people correctly, speaking up immediately and vehemently when you witness injustice does more for BLM then a unit of social justice ever will.
