Raise your hand if you want the military to have $10s of billions of dollars🙋🏽‍♂️

“Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children. The cost of one modern heavy bomber is this: a modern brick school in more than 30 cities. It is two electric power plants, each serving a town of 60,000 population. It is two fine, fully equipped hospitals. It is some fifty miles of concrete pavement. We pay for a single fighter with a half-million bushels of wheat. We pay for a single destroyer with new homes that could have housed more than 8,000 people. . . . This is not a way of life at all, in any true sense. Under the cloud of threatening war, it is humanity hanging from a cross of iron.”

Sure. Considering the current budget is around $650-$700B

likefunny

In that case it's poorly worded.

Well, we're currently spending $700B and yet we can't even protect our soliders from $100K bounties...

Im as much into spending our funding on infrastructure as anyone...but that doesnt mean we should spend less on the military. It would be a very, very bad thing if China became the foremost military superpower. If that were to happen, theres no amount of schools or hospitals that could save our way of life We need to spend smarter I'm sure, but not less.

D2, one of the main reasons China has made leaps into cyber is not just spending. Their whole military industrial complex can co-opt entire industries, cyber being one of them. Their public-private partnership is much stronger than the US. They have a similar model in Israel as well. I agree with you that spending here is needed and we should be spending more of the current DOD budget in this area. But, like someone posted above...we spend more than any other military. To me this isn’t a debate about spending more, it’s about WHERE. For the hard power vs soft power - I never said soft power is the only way. Sure, we need a military to accompany other tools. But, the lopsided budgets of our other tools is harmful to our objectives. We are giving an enormous amount to the DOD, which causes many to view them as a panacea to our problems. Several foreign policy and national security issues can (and should) be resolved by stronger diplomatic, economic, and humanitarian efforts.

Hey there Female Bosses! I have a sensitive question and I'd love your opinion... I was tracking for a promotion and pay rise, by all company measures I earned it! The reviews ran into my maternity leave, which resulted in the company telling me nothing will happen while I'm on leave (literal discrimination). Do you have a suggestion on how I make sure I get what I earned over the past number of years? Thanks for your advice

Do I go for the money? Do I tell my boss I have another offer on the table?

Does BNP APAC does background verification before sending offer letter or after sending the offer letter? I have not been asked about the educational certificates yet. They have only asked the PAN, PASSPORT and Current employer salalry slips and promotion letter. P.s - I have recieved the offer letter now. Will they be still doing any background verification or this is done ?

Does anyone know when the promotion decisions are announced at PwC? Have been hearing from Accenture and KPMG, sounds a little early to me, but wanted to check if anyone knows, thanks

Started at PwC in fall of 2016, moved to D for a raise (80->125) Watching my PwC classmates who are all Sr Associates, some on cusp of Manager. Can’t help but feel left behind as a C at Deloitte. I know I’m doing fine but man still feels like maybe I was too hasty to jump 😪

[Promotion & PERM] Scenario1: The firm already sent PWD and did the market test for Manager level, but before they got to file in the PERM, you're promoted Senior Manager. Q1. What's the impact of a promotion from Manager to Senior Manager on the ongoing PERM? Does it void the PWD and Market test? Would need to start over? Anyone went through this? Scenario2: The firm didn't file PWD yet: Q2. Could they anticipat the promotion and start PWD and Market test for SM before your promotion?

Received a job offer at a consulting firm as a data analytics consultant for $20k more than I am making now. I am torn on taking the job offer because my manager told me I was getting promoted at the end of the year to a data analyst. I am not sure what the salary range for a data analyst is at my current job. Should I take the job or wait it out to see what my end of year raise would look like? I really like my job and team so leaving would be tough, but this raise is something to consider.
