Random, but valid/persistent thought.

After 2 years of a pandemic and working independently for many years, I am not feeling interviews AT ALL. There are points in the interview where I want to just say "Look! Either hire me or don't".

How can I get over this feeling? I'm over the whole "stand in the line of fire to prove how good I am" bs. Any recommendations for getting over this or possible industries to pivot into to avoid bs interview processes and ghosting?

Lol unfortunately I don't have any helpful tips but I did want to quickly comment and let you know I feel the same exact way, not sure how to get out of this funk.

I feel the same way and I just started a month ago. I’m tired of the screening calls, multiple rounds, take home case studies, tests, crafting the perfect thank you emails, etc.

Having to prove yourself constantly and needing to self analyze after each step is taxing.

I’m amazed that some companies are still conducting multiple interviews over periods of 2 or 3 months. I’m on interview 6 for a position I was sourced for by a headhunter… wasn’t even looking. I’m currently working and find it difficult to set large chunks of time aside for zoom and in-person meetings for anyone, let alone a prospective new employer. Who conducts 6 interviews?

I love this comment! I was wondering if I was off in my thinking or out of touch with current practices. You never truly know the fit until the person is hired.

I feel the same way. I completely despise interviewing and just want to say “look, I am a terrible interviewer but a team player and can learn anything you teach me - hire me or let me move on”

Interviews are to see how you will fit in within an organization. You qualified on paper, now they want to see how you interact. Example: You work in an office and speak with their professional level clients. Do you say let me get that for you or tell them you are too busy and to figure it out. Bad example, but you should get the point.

I started a new job about 6 weeks ago and trust me, I know the feeling. Reading your post brought back emotions that I felt for months. The whole interview process of selling yourself to people is exhausting. I interviewed with several companies, for several months before I finally received an offer.

I, like the others above me, have no tips to make this process less tiresome, but I sympathize with you. You will get your “yes” soon.

It took me more than one year of constant interviewing and rejections before I was able to land up my current job. No matter how much you dislike the process there is no easy way out.

I’m going through the same, have 3 final rounds in the next 2 week (which translates into 11 1h interviews 😳) and I just want someone to come with an offer and be done…
The prep is exausthing and sometimes it all boils down to the mood of the interviewer/recruiter (which can be in or against your favour, def had both).
Let’s keep going I guess!

Well the best way to deal with that is to start your own company in some area that u like Thats my goal anyway i hate the job search process too

I would say try to develop some empathy for the interviewer. They are taking a huge chance the same as you. It’s really hard to find out what a person is really about with all of the restrictions in questions you can ask and limited amount of time you have. What if you took some time in interviews to give them a better feel for who you are? That’s all some people are really looking for. I just want to know if the person aligns with our company mission and values, no easy task. I’d much rather have an open discussion to get to know you than ask standard interview questions. I do my best to make it that way but it’s challenging, at least for me. I don’t want to know how well you answer interview questions, I want to know who you are and what you’re about. Maybe we can put out heads together and figure out some questions that would work for the both of us. Then you could answer those questions before they are asked or ask them for the interviewer. You could say, in other interviews, they asked me …xyz, I really like that question because it gave them an opportunity to know me. And then answer it.

I put a cap on interviews if they don’t know after 3 interviews they will probably never know
