Ummm.. some of the admin assistants here work long hours during busy season too. Plenty of them come in on Saturdays and Sundays as well.
YES! I'm an aspiring admin
Admin job? with my student loan balance?
Really? My office admins and tax technicians work 8-4, no later than 5. And that's during busy season too! Im just curious in general if people are interested in doing less stressful tasks and have an "easier" schedule like them. Hypothetically speaking. For the offices where they don't work weekends/long hours haha
I've thought about it... but don't think I would ever do it.
I've definitely thought about. Honestly like a lot of things about the firm and especially a lot of the people I work with, but not too excited about the job. I would totally consider moving into a more internal position (something like resource manager or HR, not EA) if the pay wasn't terrible before moving on to industry.
There is a fallacy- just because the job is lower titled / less money doesn't mean it is easier. They still expect 100% effort all the time. You can't take a 25% pay cut and expect to put forth 75% effort. A mistake in my opinion - plus you need to stay hungry and hard charging -- too early to think about taking the foot off the pedal.
Let me make something clear - I don't actually want to get myself demoted haha at least not anytime soon ;) I'm just curious if people ever have those thoughts. Like seeing the admins/tax technicians leaving at 4/4:30 (or even 5) and just wishing that could be you. Just speaking hypothetically here :)
Agreed with EY^ one of our EAs actually moved to be the EA for our clients CAE because she was being worked so hard...was managing something like 6 partners.
Yes I definitely have! It's a trade off though because there's not much for career growth if you switch
Yeah, same here
You can get that better schedule in industry without losing your gains. You have a tough degree and certification. Don't throw it away.
The processors at EY NYC work just as many hours as we do. They are always there during busy season.
Yeah I have recently considered jobs I would and could never do (bartender, waiter, retail) but still find myself thinking about them
So I guess that's not actually related to your post at all lol
