Did this with my cat a while ago. She was 3 when I brought home a kitten and hissed nonstop at first! I set the kitten up in a walk-in closet and let them sniff each other thru the door for a week, then briefly meet before going back to their own spaces, then gradually worked them up to cohabitating. Now they’re best friends! Both are female... you may have more problems if you bring in a male kitten.
There’s lots of good resources online describing how to introduce cats to eachother. The new cat needs to have a separate space for a couple of days at least, and introducing them could be quick or it could be a process of weeks. A week is probably not long enough to have cats acclimate to eachother (although some have)
It’s a very slow process to introduce cats and you should never just throw two together in a space. Like D1 said, meeting through a door is the best way to start. I actually think a male kitten would be better than a female kitten, though. Female cats can be more territorial when another female is brought in

Thanks all for your input! Sounds like it'll have to be a slow introduction and I can't just try it out with a foster cat. Definitely will try looking more info online but this is super helpful and thanks so much!! 💕

I would also reach out to rescues in the area and see if they have any tips! They want to find good homes for cats/kittens so they’ll work with you
