So I've had 2 hiring managers and several recruiters from Amazon reach out to me about applying for some open positions with the company (android). I completed the coding assessment and now they want me to go through a round of 5 hour interviews next week. Is there a good chance I'll be hired if engineering managers are reaching out to me? I'm really not sure how badly I want to work for them and I don't want to be laid off months after being hired on. Anyone know what Amazon hiring is like?

D25 - I'd consider myself a leader in the firm, but I'm not HR or even a Principal. For all the complaints on here, I decided to try to add some balance and transparency. I'll be the first to admit that I'm a fan of the firm. The people I work with have done well by me and supported me through the more challenging times. If there's a little that I can do to support others - even anonymously on social media - I consider it giving back.
Appreciate D14 and the transparency. He or she is one of the good guys.
Our Revenue growth plan in S&O is less aggressive this year and I think we're being realistic about utilization and rates. We'll likely be hiring less (i.e. Mainly campus with maybe some select targeted exp hire skill sets). So overall, yes - I see things improving this year.
D18 - thanks for the unsubstantiated blanket statement. Care to provide any actual support or logic for your position?
D24 - I'm being honest about what I know, but there are plenty of decisions that I wasn't part of - including specifically who would be cut or the manner in which it would be done. Pulling people off projects seems odd to me as well, but then again so does ripping off a band-aid...
The definition of a 3 from what I've been told is "meets expectations" how is it acceptable to downcurve someone from meeting expectations to not meeting expectations. That. Makes no logical sense. You should only down curve 1s to 2s and make the bonus and bump 1s and 2s get according to overall service line performance. Downcurving someone to a 4 is fucked up, down to a 3 shouldn't happen either but that's not as bad as going below meets expectations. Firm initiatives is not a target metric. I know it's unwritten rule but you shouldn't go below a 3 if you meet utilization and average 3s on all PEs
I'm in tech tho
How many hours did you spend on the project on which you got 3
We have been told in Advisory we are being rated on impact, if you did 43 hours of showing up type firm activity and none of the proposals turned into a WIN I could see that if your 3 project was the longest running project
@D5...SC
Then thats a secret curve coming into play. It's complete bullshit and all it serves to do is provide ammo for a layoff at midyear.
Bullshit. They are prepping for more layoffs. Do not take this personally. Is it your first year?
You need 200 hours of extracurriculars (or thereabouts) or 105%+ utilization
Not true unfortunately for this year E1. Know multiple people laid off in the middle of projects . It leaves teams scrambling
D5 that makes no business sense. I feel there is something more than just a revenue miss at deloitte this year
I think at SC level people have 150-200 hours of PRD work, may b that's why they dinged you under the garb of "less proposals". These are scary times at D!
These leaders are hunting for reasons to ding people. It's almost like they are trying to hurt morale and cause attrition
Wonder if op should invite his/her counselor to fb
Why the f are firm initiatives so important here? It's almost like they are sending the message that client work should be second this year
Yesterday, I posed a question to the FB community about what it means for a firm activity to be "impactful." It was upvoted, but not one person answered.
D5- you're right- I wish that they could just admit that the process is highly highly political and I transparent and cut the bull shit with the jargon and acronyms.
Personally, I don't think it was communicated well - but that wasn't a decision I got to make. For the meetings I was in, I think we got the ratings right across the curve. It was a hard year, but I don't think the process is broken.
