Oh I'm sorry I didn't know PwC hired lawyers for consulting. Can you clarify it for everyone better than the American Immigration Lawyers Association which basically calls it super vague? Let's start with the fact that it was signed on a Friday night with immediate effect and little meaningful direction to agents on the ground http://www.aila.org/infonet/practice-alert-travel-warning
"AILA members indicate that policies are not being implemented consistently on the ground. Please note that the situation is fluid, and may change at any time."
"Legal Permanent Residents: There appears to be some limited discretion for DHS to admit LPRs on a case-by-case basis, and following a thorough security review. Their cases will be adjudicated at the port of entry."
The EO then proceeds to ban countries that have nothing to do with ANY terrorist attack in the US for over 40 years. What's the reason these countries were chosen? With the exception of Iran, they all have weak or collapsing governments with no business value or oil money to benefit Trump and his circle.
What about the fact that it only allows "religious minorities" from countries that are over 90% Muslim? Isn't that straight up discrimination by religion?
How about the "values assessment" the order imposed? How can you quantify life transforming decisions for refugees based on a personality assessment? Is this the kind of country you want to live in where everything is measured by your government-defined value? What happened to "we're melting pot" and "give me your poor, your tired"? How can we assess the poor and tired before helping them get a secure place to live in first?
It's similar to Executive Order 9066, which sent Japanese Americans to internment camps, if anyone is interested to read. This EO is so similar, as it judges and excludes people based on race and religion. Not the same I know, but similar circumstances. We all know Trump admires America during WWII, and he seems to want to take us back to that time.
DRAG HIM @A2 👏🏾👏🏾
You mean the EO that violated due process clause?
Drag th sht out of him 👊🏽👍🏾👌🏿🔥
OP, answer honestly, did you read the whole EO? Because after I read it, I realized it's even more expansive and problematic than I initially thought. And I'm a lawyer.
I have a law degree, and this EO goes against everything we have done as s country. It reminds me of the way the US reacted after Pearl Harbor with the Japanese Internment camps. Many Japanese citizens who were loyal to the US were punished. It is very vaguely written and there is a scramble to work through it. I appreciate the idea of keeping terrorists out, but this is NOT how you do it. I'm afraid Trump is following "not every Muslim is a terrorist, but every terrorist is Muslim" thinking. It's so incredibly wrong to judge based on race and religion.
Comments saying "drag him" will not lead to anyone learning or changing their minds. Also, it's slightly sexist (though probably accurate) to assume OP identifies as male.

I sincerely hope OP isn't representative of a lot of Big 4 consultants. Condescension and a clear lack of public policy or critical thinking skills. How can you not see the impact of the EO? And it conveniently avoids countries that are allies or Trump business arenas - not exactly being tough on terrorists when you cherry pick countries. (And yes, I read the EO.)
Also - it was recently reported that Bannon personally decided to target legal green card holders against DHS counsel.
You actually support targeting legal travelers? As someone who has a lot of peers and friends on legal visas and green cards I ask: What is wrong with you? Why *aren't* you flipping your shit?
My reason for the drag comment was OP's flippant post assuming all those "acting like the world was ending" hadn't read the EO and that only OP has the gumption to fully comprehend the intent of the EO.
That and OP assuming lack of comprehension that those who disagreed with the EO are sheep...
I don't think OP understands the impact of the EO, or the gravity of it. OP may be listening to other people who are making those comments and just repeating.
At least we don't have to worry about Executive Order 66...
P1, no need to explain. Trump supporters have no tolerance for differing opinions. Even intelligent, fact-based opinions.
Here's a link to the EO: http://www.cnn.com/2017/01/28/politics/text-of-trump-executive-order-nation-ban-refugees/index.html
A2 proud to call you a coworker. Bravo. Doubt OP will respond
I will respond but before I do - this gang up and “drag him” mentality (that gets 50+ up votes) is absolutely ridiculous. I may have set a hostile tone with the use of “damn" and that’s not what I wanted to happen (that’s why drinking/being out and posting aren’t a good duo). My ask to read the EO - was in response to numerous comments across social media that clearly came from people who had no idea - truly what was within it. If you are educated on it and truly understand what it says then the post clearly wasn’t directed at you.
Why do I support the decision of the administration? Not because of the heartbroken, scared and seemingly lost men and women detained in airports all across the country - men and women who are surely incredible people.
I support this decision because I truly believe that it has everyones long term (emphasis on long term) best interest in mind (and I am not some brainwashed, confederate flag flying racist person). We need to take a step back and take care of America. We have 18 million unemployed americans. Cities that are getting congested. From 1776-1976 the U.S Averaged a flow of 250,000 legal AND illegal immigrants a year. Since 1990 and on around 1 million legal immigrants and 800 immigrants settle in the US a year.
Yes we are a melting pot AND THAT’S NOT CHANGING (walk outside or go to work - 120 days cannot undo hundreds of years of tradition, culture and diversity) we are simply taking a step back, reevaluating things and moving forward as a country.
I equate this to the 2nd amendment argument that “guns are different then they were in 1776.” (see video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LORVfnFtcH0). The world is changing and it might take a 120 days to pause and take a look at how we move forward - and ultimately better ourselves as a country (a country full of diversity).
We all should realize, better than anyone else in the country, that tough decision are made every single day - that negatively effect innocent people who in the grand scheme of things don’t deserve the outcome. Wether you work at MBB, Big 4 or any other consulting firm - your company makes decision for itself (or for our clients) that have the long term goal in mind - not short term. We are often ridiculed or “not-liked” by the majority of the clients when we make tough decisions BUT we are educated and realize the long term goal so that is why we do what we do.
The EO is for 120 days. Yes the timing was quick and sudden but even if you gave those countries 10, 20 or 50+ days notice - the cutoff would effect countless people still. I am not arguing the timing. I am simply stating my opinion. We need to take care of America and take a step back. Not white america. Not black america. Not muslim america. Just America. The American that has an amazing blend of cultures, beliefs and backgrounds.
I am getting long winded and surely have typed a single line in this response that will be torn apart by someone but give it a chance. Go ahead and “drag me” but keep in mind this is my opinion. You can agree or disagree. Have a great Sunday.
It's interesting that the countries we are killing people in with drones strikes (https://www.google.com/amp/s/m.mic.com/articles/amp/23708/guess-which-8-countries-the-u-s-is-waging-secret-drone-campaigns-against?client=safari) have a lot in common with those in the EO. Of course that article about the drones was written four years ago so it's dated. This looks to me like different presidents taking different approaches. President Obama chose to kill threats overseas. President Trump (so far) is choosing to ban most people from a similar set of high risk places. Obama ordered the killing of terrorists and when it went awry, innocents were killed. President Trump surely is banning some good people, people we really want here for 120 days. Why don't we ask how we can craft the best policies to keep us safe, us, here in this forum as a start instead of engaging in stultifying partisanship. If we most of us could agree here, it could be the beginning of a better way.
A2 - good points. You lost me at the end with oil and Trump. If you want to go down that road, add every Dem politician to that circle as well. Those countries were chosen because they are not considered "allies." They're too far off for us to even try to fix or influence. Truth.
