It’s more terrifying to me that a SM would take this rag seriously.
There are certainly a lot of interesting things to debate, but this article’s take should get it a flunk in any high school essay assignment. Almost no cited factual basis and a plethora of logical errors. If he turns out to be right it would be by pure accident
Why not read something from a peer-reviewed source and people who are well versed in their subjects?
Yes OP - learn to farm.
Rising Star
People will one day walk the Earth and ask “what was the United States?” But that day isn’t today or anytime soon.
I’m so glad I went through my Ron Paul gloom and doom phase in high school.
There are people-adults even!-that literally spend their entire lives reading, hoping, and planning for the next big crash, societal failure, martial law, end of the petrodollar, etc. And I hate to break to you but this group of people is supremely overconfident in their stupidity and never, I means NEVER, takes time to reflect and review their old prognostications.

Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.
What exactly are you Senior Manager of?
Idk dude. Seems like we are setting up for failure. Mostly the bit about the currency devaluation is what struck a chord w me. That could be fucked.
The author’s views are worthless. Go read real analysis—from any end of the spectrum. This is like getting worried because a children’s book told you dragons are real.
This reads as if Russia itself wrote it…
You actually believe a SubStack article this whole heartily?
It does come off a bit pro Russia, yes. And no, not wholeheartedly. It just had some points I don’t typically consider and could have bad results for the rest of us.
I’m never going to get back the 5 minutes of my life I wasted reading that article. @sm Foreign Affairs is my favorite source if you want top notch analysis
In a worst case, and likely, scenario US could lose its dominance as an economic superpower. That won’t mean that we will regress to a farming economy. Management consultants are needed around the world. And businesses that are restructuring need consultants to help reinvent themselves
Further, during the 1980’s the USSR was economically isolated from the rest of the world. We were still watching Wall St., lifestyles of the rich and famous, and family ties on TV while interest rates were at 10%
Despite this war in Ukraine, the huge economic disruption of Covid, life will go on.
Fortunately we are a more global society than ever. You could be in Ghana tomorrow helping to launch a mining co. Or go to Poland to help launch a tech outsourcing company. Or work for a shipping or logistics company to help with the ongoing Covid recovery.
There is soooo much opportunity out there!
I mean it is the *confession* bowl, so I confess to reading a Substack article that may or may not have decent points and expressing my immediate reaction. Not everything coming out of the standard media is exactly accurate. I’m not as confident in our security in the world as the “professional” consensus here seems to be. I don’t buy into this idea that it’s all doom and gloom or the dollar is over, but I def see us a major tipping point. That’ll have an impact on all of us.
You don’t need to learn how to farm but you should think about what the dollar represented and how its devaluation can affect things.
At the end of the day, one can remain complacent in their thinking and believe the status quo of all things remain (and then suffer after) or one can try to think outside the box and learn more to understand different aspects of this world. It doesn’t make one automatically be a conspiracist or the sort but researched thoroughly can give one a leg up in the next phase of this lifetime, whatever it may be.
There’s a reason why following herds feels great until it isn’t and contrarian thinking can be good (at times). Think about the economic hardships that people go through in history and think why do some people not go through it. Luck or information, sometimes go hand in hand.
