Anyone else completely mail it in after giving their 2 weeks? Major senioritis for me rn. Probably had 2 billable hours today. Maybe
Ah! If the clients ever realize the number of billable hours wasted on making slides just ‘look’ pretty!!!!
what is the annual billable hours requirement for a manager/senior manager at KPMG? And is it enforced?
I’m thankfully hitting my hours, but my firm keeps passing non-billable work my way. I am grateful for the opportunities, but this type of work always seems to find its way to the female associates at my firm. We have been told that non-billable work is irrelevant in terms of our annual hours. Any tips on how to navigate this in a thoughtful way? I want to be a team-player, but I believe that others need to step up to the plate.
What happens if you don’t hit your billable hours? I am a first-year that had a very slow February and slow start to March. I’ve been reaching out to various teams for work but things seem slow now & I’m worried that I’m not going to hit my 1800 target.
What matters more - billable hours or quality of work? It seems like I have a good reputation for always being available, but personally, I don't think I am doing my best work as I'm overloaded. Does billing well matter more than quality work? Just started in the spring as midlevel.
What the most outrageous billable hours you can confirm at your firm? Just learned from a partner that the highest billers at my firm came in at 3600, 3500 and 3200. Seems fishy to me.
Need advice for resigning while on bench. I already have a start date with the new employer. Should I do a traditional two week notice or give <=1 week notice instead? My goal is to not burn bridges, but I also don’t want to get let go on the spot since I have nothing to “wrap up” besides HR tasks. I’ve read on here that sometimes they will let you go day of and pay you out for two weeks but I don’t see why any firm would do that for somebody not currently performing billable work...
Tax work at my law firm is not enough to keep me busy. Maybe I could start doing work in another department to supplement my billable hours. Is anyone here a part timer in another group? I’m thinking investment funds or start ups? Anyone else do this and any advice?
how many administrative/non billable hours do you have per week? only working 6 billable hours per day right now (tech consulting)
What does your firm allow you to count towards non-billable hours other than standard business development?
I’m a 2017 associate in NYC biglaw. I logged approx. 2300 billable hours in 2019. Is that light, normal or heavy in the biglaw market for RE associates at my level? Thanks in advance for thoughts.
Anybody switched from plaintiff to defense later in their career? If so, which did you prefer? Also, I’ve done plaintiff work my entire career - outside of billable hours, in your experience what are some frustrations/challenges that are unique to the defense side? I’m a 10 year attorney looking at some defense jobs right now and they seem a lot more stable with more upward mobility than anything I’ve experienced at a plaintiff firm. Thanks in advance for any comments offered.
Advice for young attorneys dealing with non-billable workload? I’m still my first two months at my firm but a ton of the work I’m being assigned is non-billable. I understand if I’m not still fully on boarded but how are we supposed to keep up billables while being given time consuming non billable work?
How do you get 40 hours of billable work done (and then not fall behind on admin stuff) with kids at home!? I have a 4 month old and a 3 yo with care 2 days per week and I don’t think I can do this!! Please help!
I can't wait 'til the day I can quit. As audit ain't nothing but bullshit. Audit programs won't be a bore. Time entry won't be a chore. Realization, billable hours will be no more.
[1/2] Hi all, I apologize because I know there have been posts on this bowl with similar subject matter recently, but I really need advice. I am at a risk of losing my job at the end of this month if I don’t make some changes to my work performance, specifically meeting my monthly billable hour requirement. My work and my work product is not an issue - my partner has repeatedly commended me on everything I produce, but my billable hours are seriously lacking.
Just got into a full time grad program for international affairs that starts in January of 2021. (completely changing careers). I need to stay working at my firm until then and possible after to get the billable hours for my CPA. I passed all 4 exams and I refuse to give let that go to waste...... how do I tell my employer I'll be going to school in a way that they'll still let me work part time? Extremely nervous they're just going to let me go.
Thoughts on JD/MBA?’
I have been in the data game for 3 years and have been in a variety of different roles from being a dashboard developer, to a SQL/Python developer & data engineer. What is bugging me is that I have a lot of XP in creating self service based tools that generate descriptive stats. I’m having impostor syndrome when it comes to being a data scientist/ analyst because I’ve never been put in a role where my organization wants me to build ml or stat models. Is this norm? I’m very frustrated by this

I’d love some help thinking through this. I’m currently renting for $1600 base ($1800 total) and live in the least desirable part of town, and expect it to raise to about $2k/month. I was planning to buy my first property in the city and Airbnb part of it, but it will take me about a year to save up the cash (~$500k starting). Eventual goal is to move more rural but trying to build to FI. I found a property in my ideal dream location for $280k but it needs work, and can’t Airbnb it. Continued
People who came to the US on L1B, and successfully switched jobs (assuming visa switch from L1B to H1B), could you please share your experience or provide any useful tips? Feeling stagnant and trapped at my current job partly due to visa restrictions and ofcourse the pandemic situation. Looking to jump ship but not even sure if it's possible on an L1B.
How many PTO days does the average company give out? 20 days seems pretty normal to me but I’ve interviewed with companies who give out 13-15 PTO days which seems very low.
Re lateral hiring: who can you expect to conduct an initial screener for amlaw50 firm? Secured an initial interview and just waiting for more details. Fingers crossed!
COVID helped us see that some meetings really could be emails. ZOOM helped turn those emails back into meetings. Ah, technology.
Those of you who are waiting or opposed to the COVID vaccine - do you feel obligated to divulge your true vaccine status to restaurants, employers, etc.?
Is it worth it to get a professional certification like SHRM/PHR? Not many of my colleagues have one and it’s not a requirement for my role, but I’m curious if it’s worth it in the long run
Got a heads up that I'm looking at a promotion here soon. What is the avg. Search Manager salary in Chicago?
