Realistically, how long would you say it should take to get through ~3,000 documents of doc. review?

If I were staffing that project, I’d plan for it to take about 50 hours. There are a lot of variables (what software you’re using, complexity and length of documents, complexity of coding, etc.) that can affect the amount of time.

like

I'd estimate it will take 60 hours

like

When I budget doc review, I assume 100 docs an hour is max reasonable efficiency, and add a buffer. Harder to do that with huge cases, but sounds like your universe is limited.

like

Sometimes you can fly through them, in which case maybe 9-10 hours?

like

Back in my first year steptoe and Johnson heyday I would get through 2,000 docs every 8 hours at an ungodly rate for a 1st year attorney and I was never fired so that seems like a reasonable pace no? You do the math from that.

like

After Partner 2’s response I no longer recall how
Many docs I could review in an hour but also recall that if you had relativity it was better

helpful

It depends on the documents honestly. Some data I can get through 100 an hour. Today I spent 7 hours redacting 200 documents.

Are you going through them to produce them? Are you reviewing a set that was produced to you? Are you the first to look at them? Or the last?

like

I assume 60-100 an hour. There are a lot of variables depending on what you're looking for (privilege/ issue tags/ etc) and a lot of different ways things can be loaded (a batch of junk files and email signatures will go super fast)

like

God I love the junk logo files from emails.

What kind of docs and how many people working on it?

I’d try getting through the first hundred or so, see how long that takes you, and estimate how long you’ll need for the rest based on that.

like

2 days. Should be plenty to skim and read what’s important.
A week if you’re reading everything word for word.

Without knowing more about the documents, software, and the review, 50-60 hours.

It really depends what the docs are. Like someone else said, in my mind it’s 60-100 docs an hour, 60/hr to start and then gets increasingly faster as I go through. However I have also done doc reviews that require extensive tagging and coding on every doc… slows down Review time and reviews where all spammy/ nonsense docs have been culled and I have to carefully read each doc so it slows down more. That being said I’d hope to get through 3000 docs in one week if I have minimal other work or 2 weeks if I have q full plate on top of review
