If overworked and underappreciated you don't owe them anything. If you want to stay for career purposes, those two things need to change. Otherwise, firms are hiring. The market is hot. It's not the middle of busy season and we have some great people at my firm who are paid fairly and have a life outside work- join us if you're looking to stay in PA but regain your sanity! They will hire someone to do your job at 130% of your pay, and be fine

I’ve been with the B4 for over 10 years. Work always gets done so don’t feel bad about leaving. Tell them that you really enjoyed working with them and you want to try something new. Basically say nice things when you leave.

If you feel the team relies on you that much can you say with absolute certainty you’ve given your team the tools to make it on their own? Your team isn’t more important than you. You’re not out there saving lives. You’re doing accounting. Look in the mirror and do what’s best for the person looking back.

Please don’t feel bad for a firm that generates over $30B in revenue and enough profits to pay partners $1M+, but doesn’t spend enough money on resources such as staff.

Felt exactly the same and left.

I am going through the same thing, and I am looking so hard for a new job for my mental health. 🙏

Odd to think you feel bad for a firm that over works and under pays you. You need to find a new firm, if you really don’t want to leave then at least negotiate your salary

I totally get what you're feeling. I've only quit one job before, but I gave them like 3 months lead time to roll off as I had no job lined up and wanted to travel. My current plan is to request a sabbatical a few months earlier than I plan to take it so I can transition all my work. I'm not sure if I'll return from it though haha and plan to use the time to rest and look into potential new careers. You can maybe do the same,, and if you find a job before your sabbatical start date and need to leave earlier at least they were already in the midst of transitioning your work to someone else.. I'm blessed with having enough saved though that I can afford to leave without having another job lined up and can live off sabbatical $$$.

This being said, this is what I am doing/have done bc I would feel a lot of responsibility and guilt at letting down my team if I left abruptly. I am also a people pleaser and know this is a character flaw haha. If you can get over that feeling, I'd just leave with the normal 2-3 week notice. I've had a lot of coworkers leave, even in the midst of busy times and it hasn't burned any bridges.

It is sometimes amazing to see how big four cultivates this cult-like culture where people feel abused and reluctant to leave. OP I think you can make a list of the things that made you unhappy, stick it next to your laptop screen, get the partner on a call, give the notice while looking at the list. No offense meant for you, but I can’t imagine a team of working adults cannot get their job done with losing you

Serious question: how difficult is it to get straight up fired from big 4? Outside the layoffs last year, I have personally never seen anyone let go for any reason. There's always some PIP or transferring projects or some long review process that never goes anywhere. Anyone have any insight or stories? Just looking for some perspective.

How many teachers set their own curriculum, meaning that you come up with everything you teach and assess? Beyond that, how many teachers are expected to change up their content almost every year? As a high school English teacher, I develop everything myself or collaborate with my (frankly amazing) coworkers. We are asked constantly to find new, modern books to buy and to develop curriculum around them (because our subject is more skill based). Wondering if other districts/subjects do the same.

Hi. I have a question. In a world where COVID is under control, how would you feel if your companies went back to being fully in the office? Does anyone do extra work for your company that you are not being compensated for? I’m not talking going above and beyond. I joined our newly created ESG committee and instead of just a volunteering role to channel my passion, it has turned into steering ESG strategy. I enjoy it, but we’ve now had the committee for 1+ yr and there’s no sign that it becomes formalized into our “day job” roles or formal acknowledgment. I would be happy with a bottle of champagne at this point. Thoughts?
