Really want to buy this ~2.5k watch but feel guilty not investing the money at a young age for compound interest.

2.5K in long term is not going to matter as much when you see the bigger picture. As long as you can afford it, go for it. Don’t go into debt for luxury items, this is should be the only rule.

The fact that you’re already thinking about compounding rn tells me you’re smart enough to make right decision.

It’s a balance. All the savings in the world won’t mean much if you get hit by a bus and never get to retire. As long as you’re saving enough, there’s no harm in enjoying life along the way, whether that’s travel or cars or a country club membership or watches.

like

You’re a consultant. Long term, 2.5k is going to be negligible. Also agree with Microsoft1. As long as you can easily afford it outright.

Live your life, as long as it’s not egregious with your finances to spend that amount.

You will be fine. The first luxury watch I purchased was the navitimer and it was a lot of money for me at the time. However, it did and still makes me feel really good wearing a nice timepiece. It opened a lot of convos I would of never had and today, I’m in a much better position now and still proudly wear it. Your first will always have sentimental value and it’s a time stamp of where you are in life (mentally). While you have the right frame of mind, I would always treat myself (10-20% of income) to something that’s good for the soul. A timepiece is one of them! There are other things you can spend that will be regretable but never I felt I regretted spending it on a nice watch. If all else fails, you can always sell it for equal value, a little less or even more.

like

How old are you? What’s your income?

I mean if you hodl the watch long enough, it’ll probably build value too

I’d say anything Tudor and up should be fine, especially if you buy grey. Most of these brands do annual price increases so while you might not make money, you’ll probably get close to what you paid back.

You are young, you will make it back fast. Just spend it. Spending is optimism.

Mortgage strategy question: moving from HCOL to MCOL city, selling current house and buying a new one. Will net enough equity from the sale for up to 20% down payment. How do you think about mortgage rates, points, PMI, etc for the new purchase? I'm in favor of putting less down and investing the difference, but not if the terms are worse.

And I'm talking with both a broker and a credit union - is one better than the other?

Hi everyone. I'm a CPA (not relevant, but I want to mention it anyways) who wants to humble brag about how I'm a rich millionaire and know more than you (I don't though). Here's my financial journey that makes me qualified to speak on this:

1. Inherit 200k
2. Have your relative match your IRA contributions
3. Be in a rich family and not have to go into debt for school
4. Max retirement accounts and invest everything in index funds

Please DM and make me feel important.

I have not filed 2017, 2018, 2019 return as my total income was less than threshold

Is it possible to file return for 2017 , 2018, 2019( all r in refund) now without paying any penalty?
