Really want to live in NYC for the next few months. Recently broke up with my long term gf and need a change. Can’t “officially” move due to personal reasons, what’s the best way to make this happen?

There are plenty of short term, furnished rental companies. Common, Roomrs.co, Aleph Living. Some offer private spaces, but all of them offer shared spaces if you don't mind that. Roomrs.co definitely has private rooms but they may not be available right now.

I did something similar for several months a few years ago. When the initial term was set to expire I went directly to the owner for a few extra months, helped save money not paying the broker more fees to extend.

The owner told the broker to not re-list when my term ended, said their cousin was using the unit while I took those extra months. Rent was the same for me but I didn’t have to pay the extra fee. The owner also let me do a half-month when I found my permanent apartment a bit earlier than planned. Worked out great.

Look for a sublet on Craig’s list. My sister sublets apartments / fill rooms thru there since she moved every 2 years to another city and she also have found roommates & apartments through Craigslist’s as well. She has never paid a broker fee bc she does it this way!

Sorry to hear that OP. That was me a few years ago. You can also take a look at areas surrounding Manhattan like Jersey City, LIC, etc.

Have a friend I can crash with for a short period of time, but don’t wanna burden him long term.

Short term rental air bnb?

like

BCG sure there are 1br worth paying that for. The point is that OP is saying they don’t want to spend a lot of money and it’s painting a false picture that you have to spend that much on a 1Br.

Op you can easily find a sublet situation for a studio/1br for 1800-2000

Sonder.com. Furnished apartments for short term seats, better than air bib. You can also look at Zeus Living.

Sonder or Blueground

Just left a Blueground apt elsewhere and liked it - pricey but worth it.

Look to sublet. Some people might be out for the summer so you could fill their place for the short term

like

Yes might take a bit more work but there are plenty of spots and rooms available for short term sublet.

I’m gone for portions of September, October and November if you wanna sublet my place.

Come during the weekends ?

I recently broke up with my fiancé. Moving to the city as well. Had to wait to sell my house to officially move out and move on. I started visiting friends outside the state too ease the burden of just having 1 friend to always stay with. I usually went to the city on the weekends and planned trips outside the city to meet people in philly or Boston. Every weekend will add up. So having multiple places to crash helps

smart

OP where do you live now

Pittsburgh

Also Common co-living in Brooklyn.

Hi all. I am licensed in life, accident and health and am looking for new opportunities. I’ve been working in employee benefits in a small brokerage firm on a book of business of over 400 clients, I’m the only account manager. We’ve had 100% employer retention since I’ve been here. I am a high performer, but not sure I’m valued much at all . I want to reach the top and become partner in my career ; this is why I went to work for a small firm. My boss favors others when I do the most work!!
