We work to earn a living. That’s it. Anything else is noise. Take the money.
WLB is the most important consideration and has a dollar value all its own. Time is money.

Your job can disappear for any reason or no reason at any time. Without a portable book of business. Take the highest paying job and do not accept the counter offer.
Most associates do not have portables.
Do you need an extra 60%?
Bruh 2000 hours is big law. Get your money.
It's not always about money, but it sounds like you have plans for the increase -- go for the 60%!
If your partners are as great as you say, they’ll understand you taking a job that offers a 60% pay raise. After all, do you think any of them would act differently?
In a similar boat. Went from small to midsized after 2 years. Moving to a big firm now 2 years later. There will always be uncertainty/risk/reservations, but at the end of the day, it’s your life and career. You work hard and should be compensated accordingly.
If you marry for money you usually pay for it.

Yes. Make the switch.
Lateral!
2000 is WLB?
I lateraled from a midsize firm to large international firm and I would not change my decision. Not only do I make more money but I have better training, higher expectations, more resources, and tons of exposure to cool and interesting work. Just do it, even if it sucks, one year at a large law firm with name recognition can help a lot down the road.
Eh i would just take the 60% increase. That’s huge imo.
Go
Go. Take the money.
I left for money and it is up there with the worst decisions I have made.
It was a bad decision because researching a firms culture was really hard in the interview process. The new firm is a bad fit and there may not be a way back to the old firm.
60% is a lot of money, but liking where you are is worth a lot, too.
Any insight on WLB at new firm?
Smaller office and smaller team. But they seem close knit. And the associates work roughly the hours I’m already working. Not many fires to put out on weekends.
I take it your compensation is not on the grid? Are you considering Big law and that is the reason for 60% increase?
Thank you for your advice!!
I think you should lateral but if you’re in corporate there’s a chance you could be laid off in the next couple years if recession hits hard
Luckily not in corporate!
The grass isn’t always greener on the other side but for me it was. You need to decide what is most important for you personally.
