For a startup it feels reasonable
I left as an APC2 recently (no mba) and was offered 165k base and 200k equity recently at a pre ipo startup. Depends how early stage your startup is. The equity $ present value is meaningless - look at % of company and growth potential.
Agree, very low. Unless it’s a amazing company or you hate consulting, it wouldn’t be a wise choice.
Yeah sounds like a huge paycut
What stage? Sounds low if unicorn/series d. Once you go down to series a/b, that’s about all they can do.
If that’s the case, it sounds a bit low. No bonus? I feel like you can push a bit more and base needs to be at least enough to sustain the lifestyle you need as RSU is still paper money. If you think they IPO soon and see a big upside, I may be more aggressive on negotiating RSU.
Update: got another offer from a startup with 210k base, 40k bonus, and ~50k in equity vesting annually over 5 years!

And me
Sheesh, add that yearly RSU to the base and then add that RSU again, and that’s at least a little closer
Thanks. RSUs refreshed annually that would be closer but current offer is way too much of a pay cut. I’ll negotiate but I doubt they will be able to match anywhere close to market rate
What is your YOE?
Well it sounds about right to me for industry

Location? Is there an annual bonus?
Out of curiosity - what’s your ballpark salary as a PL? Joining in two months as a Senior Consultant and would love an estimate...
Agree about coming as a lateral. It’s not a great experience. I also was a fast track candidate at my old firm and have significantly stalled my career by coming here as I’ve lost a great opportunity where I was, am getting less good ‘bottom of the barrel’ experience, as well as the levelling down.
New to the game. What’s an RSU?

Sounds spot on for just 7 years of experience
If you're a PL1, I assume you're looking at $230kish and PL2 $260kish. If you add the refreshers then 210k + 20-40k in refresher makes you ~ whole - with potential upside on RSU post IPO (if you plan to stay that long).
I agree to negotiate, but also think through the non quantitative elements before deciding. If this was just for a pay day, then I will let this one go for sure.
250-300k current comp. In the initial offer conversation they didn’t share too many details about refreshers, but there is no bonus. Will push them to get some idea of how much to anticipate (if anything) in terms of refreshers. The offer as is is a 25-30% pay cut
Sounds about right for M1!
