Did anyone attend PDM townhall today? Summary?
Yes try to negotiate. If you get in another model that’s great. Usually in project delivery model all they ask is your manager should tell Resource manager that you will be rolled off from the project in 5/6 weeks. That gives resource manager enough time to assign you a next project.
I have also heard that they have good(around 98% ) redeployment rate for commercial pdm, not sure about gps.
Pls go ahead and negotiate. If it works out great else settle with PDM and you will still be working along with colleagues from core consulting.
Grow your network. If down the lane you want to make a comeback, you have chances to be part of core.
Core is the traditional consulting track. Pdm has a lower maximum on the bench threshold (like 4 weeks) than consulting and the benefits aren't as nice, so try negotiating, but you can use a pdm role to get a foot in the door then transfer after a year. That's what I did. There is GPS core S&A, you just need to find them and make connections. GPS tends to do a good job helping PDMs find contracts in my experience, but it definitely still pays to build a good network.
There are benefits to all, I spent a few years in RM here are the main differences to PDM vs Traditional:
1. Employment is tied to the project; you’ll have a standard 4-week notice issued about 4-5 weeks from roll off to work with your RM and network to find a new project
2. PDM usually requires (when we are not in a hybrid work model) you to relocate as PDM is usually onsite almost 100% at client sites - there are relo packages and timing built into the contracts so you’ll know all of that up front before accepting and PDM projects are usually long-term (they must be at least 1 year to truly be PDM)
3. Yes there (currently) is approx 98% redeployment rate in comm PDM don’t know about GPS so the chances of redeployment is high
4. Salary and benes are slightly less that traditional core but more that USDC packages
5. There are ZERO firm/PRD expectations (in fact, non-billable codes for time are not permitted in PDM without several levels of approval) so you work your project hours only
Take all of this into consideration, I’ve helped several go from core to PDM and vice versa in the past. You just have to weigh the pros/cons for you and ignore any BS you see here on this app (although for this post you’ve not gotten the typical cynical answers just yet).
Hi D4 , as I can see you were RM , is employment tied to the project for TPP PDM also or they have a bit more flexibility ? Please confirm.
Much appreciated, D1/D2. Is Core solely commercial? Is there such a thing as GPS Core as a technical - maybe S&A or something of that nature?
As long as you can get on a long term project and are comfortable with your salary, it’s like any other gig.
