Other details aside, I wouldn’t join a firm on the basis of who my first client is slated to be

likesmart

Well they can’t give you a client name because that breaks confidentiality but you could ask for an industry and city. 9 times out of 10 that’s all you need to figure it out. GT sounds better though.

like

Makes sense- I’m hearing you’ll have time to up-skill then? Make the most of it!

like

There’s no lack of transparency from the recruiter. This is consulting and you’re not hired for a specific client - they are doing the right thing by not telling you a specific client. Regarding commute, I’d assume that the normal will be to be back to client site at least 3 days a week. I would not want a 2-hr commute each way, so that alone would make me look for something else.

like

Fair. GT told me exactly who the client would be and how long the contract is. Fed consulting you typically know because you have to pass clearances that are client specific and take 3-12 months to obtain.

GT! No sense in travelling 2 Hours each.

like

Same experience with a KPMG recruiter, seems indicative of their culture. Flip side I’ve heard great things from friends who work at GT. Idk about federal but commercial consulting doesn’t ever give you the client you’d be going to (unless maybe you’re hired for a very specific skillset)

like

I didn't have a positive experience interviewing with KPMG. Felt like I was chatting with people that work in a warehouse instead of a big4 firm. Recruiter and the process was also sub par.

like

Which job is better for your long term goals? Expect better WLB at GT vs KPMG, but expect worse exit opps due to less brand recognition.

likehelpful

What group? Depending on the recruiter and group you're going into, there might not be a specific client yet hence the reason. Federal advisory will do this as there may be many roles you could fill depending on timing. Work from home vs client vs office site is all very project dependent. DC based would likely mean you're expected to be on client site, especially if it's got a clearance requirement.

like

Sounds like KPMG may have plans to bench you, beware.

like

sometimes when there are no true details for the client it’s because you are a capability hire i.e., to the bench. Its pretty standard at firms. So remotely true.!

Would it be creepy to reach out and express my interest on other roles ( it has been 2 weeks since I got a reject) ? Really liked the company and the work they are doing.
