I have a weird experience with KPMG India . Two weeks ago I had salary negotiation with the HR manager. He told me that the offer will be released in a couple of days but I haven't received the offer letter yet.I tried reaching out to the HR manager but didn't receive any response. Shall I take it as no?
I've worked at the same engineering firm for 4 years. I'm currently making $161k with only a $750 bonus, but excellent vacation (4 weeks, cash out anytime, rolls over indefinitely), 45 hours a week. I have an interview with a recruiter at Guidehouse this week for a Technical Project Manager role. It seems to be focused in the government space and requires a security clearance. What sort of salary and benefits could I expect for this sort of role at Guidehouse?

Vacation time being accrued is not always bad. It gets paid out at the end. Unlimited does not.
Exactly. Unlimited PTO is the biggest scam out there that serves only the business.

I cannot imagine taking a job in the hopes that their policies will improve. If you’re not willing to sign up for whatever they currently do, don’t take the job.
I agree - the thing is that it is a big bump up for title and salary. The account/client is a major one and interesting work. I want to take it but then looking at their benefits/policies n the offer letter...agh.
Ex Omnicom here…those policies are global so unlikely to change. While unlimited PTO sounds nice it’s actually better to have set days as it forces you to take time off so you can recharge. Not sure which city you’re in but ask them about other benefits and perks. Where I was we had a gym, free workout and yoga classes, a bunch of discounts with trainers and restaurants, and I was able to take a paid mini-sabbatical.
So you’re getting a big bump in pay, a better title which will improve your future marketability and you are unhappy they want you to actually show up 12 days a month and you can’t take vaca month 1? They should probably hire someone else.
Empathy’s for people who need it, not for people getting opportunities. Hard pass, spent plenty of time in NYC, living there makes zero sense. I wasn’t aware you got to pick who you work with? How’s that work exactly? The irony behind your comment, is usually the person saying that’s idea of getting out of the city is going to a winery, and very rarely are as worldly as they believe they are. Since we are making suggestions, I suggest getting out of the city and growing some thicker skin 😁
I wouldnt worry about pto.
But the requirements to be in office 3days a week as part of the offer would bother me. I would ask them to remove it. Or put some “ reasonableness” language.
People on staff pre Covid don’t have that in their contracts.
Negotiate, sounds like the title is relatively senior
At an Omnicom agency now and while Omnicom says we are supposed to be in-office 3 days a week, in my experience it has not been reinforced at the agency level. I haven’t been in to the office in weeks, and that’s not uncommon. YMMV of course.
Get a counter from Razorfish. The grass is certainly not greener and being forced to come into the office x number of days just because… is not a place you want to work at. I’m all for in-person time, but there has to be a solid and compelling reason for coming in that is beneficial to the team and the work. There are so many other benefits when comparing Razorfish and Omnicom.
It all depends on what you are used to. In this current working environment. So many people are used to not having to come into the office and not having to commute. So if those are deal breakers for you then say no. But I would recommend accepting the offer and then requesting exemptions for having to come in. My mentality in this situation would be that they need me to fill a role more than I need them for a check.
Go for it
Unlimited PTO is better for the company. They don’t have to pay out. Plus unlimited doesn’t mean unlimited. Your manager has to approve it (which they can cap it or not allow it if you taking time off is a burden to the team). Bad for you.
I know I'm in the Groupe Kool-Aid, but... some of the stuff you've said would be a dealbreaker for me - and I travel and spend regular time in the office. Vacation? 12 weeks on, 1 week off, 12 weeks on 2 weeks off, 12 weeks on, 1 week off, 11 weeks on, 12 weeks on 2 weeks off and so on... Amazingly some of the crazy project hours work for a more sustainable work life balance/ regular recharge - and if you are with a good crew - they'll support you in something like this.
Have you considered leveraging this offer for a combination of internal title change / agency shift with title? There are internal Groupe options...
Last note: Weeks 10-12 are not a lot of fun and require that I am pushing to get done what needs to be done and that there is either an end, or a handoff
