Second year at lit boutique. Being asked to draft a lot of briefs from scratch. Work product is great but I take way too long. Not necessarily procrastinating. I just struggle to get a flow state. I rewrite the same sentences over and over. Constantly restructure outline. Always stop to check westlaw. I want to just power through a first draft and add cites/revise prose later. But can’t figure out. Flow state only comes when I’m backed against a wall. Currently on medication. Any other tips?

I'm an M&A associate, but I look at these in house roles and have no idea what are the types I would be considered for: regulatory? product counsel? compliance? The only one for sure I know I'd get a look is securities counsel...what did others apply to? What doe these other roles do? And are the year ranges hard cut offs? Does 5 years mean 5 years or will the company consider 3-4?

Age old question for litigators who went in-house in a corporate (or product) role: how difficult was it to land a job? What’s it like to be in-house at a family office? If you have the right background, are you able to be involved in investment decision-making?

I started my first in-house role about 4 months ago and I don’t think it’s the right fit. I love the no billable hours aspect, but otherwise I miss the structure of being at a firm. How long do you think I should try to stick this out before I move on? I want to give the job a real shot - and i know the transition to in-house can be jarring…but I also don’t want to spend too much time in a job that is a wrong fit.

How long does it generally take to find a new role in house (for those already in house)? Obviously this varies a lot based on experience, practice area, how you came across your new job, but in general do folks spend just a couple of months looking? A year? Longer?
