Do not give your current salary, only what you want for this new salary.
Agree with this. Recruiters shouldn't even ve asking you your current salary. They should only be asking what salary you expect or are looking for.
I would phrase it as - “as I move forward in the interview process, I’ll hopefully have a much clearer picture of the full responsibilities in this role and company. Until then, this is the range I’m looking for with my current skill set and experience”.
I have never received an offer letter without the actual “offer”. This approach seems rather odd. If this is the way they are playing it, just give the top end of the range as the exact number the recruiter is pursuing.
If you received an offer, your past comp has no baring. And frankly, in many locations, this question is not even legal. If you have the written offer in hand and need help negotiating for more, reach out to me on LinkedIn and I'll see how I can help. www.linkedin.com/in/alanjstein
I would be curious to understand why he is looking for it because ‘from my understanding, it’s not market practice’ . This said I have seen this happen before, but it was done before the offer was formalized (verbal only) and from a state where it was legal to ask that question
Repeat the range calmly. Also, appears to be a flag.
Recruiter should be working for you. That said, you can’t really have a job offer that doesn’t include an important term like SALARY.
