Received offer for $120k at Deloitte for consultant level, currently a big jump from my staff 2 salary of 85k but I know I am being early promoted and will likely make around $105-$110k by August, is the short term salary bump worth starting over at a new firm?

Yes. Jump now. Start looking out again at the end of the year because by then you will know if you hate or love Deloitte

I’d take it. I did the same but from Deloitte to EY. Newly promoted C1 (Deloitte) at 92k -> Senior 1 (EY) at 117k. Personally I like EY much more than Deloitte, but i was in Deloittes GPS practice. 120k is a great base for a C1.

Promo is never a guarantee. Take the money

No one ever gives such things in writing. And I’ve seen some such things going south.. sorry due to such and such issue we were not able to give you the promotion. It’s an apology for them but hard dollars for you. Think what you want

Consultant at Deloitte = s1 at EY so leave

likesmartfunny

No it isn't. Don't take the job and try to become manager at EY. You'll get bigger bucks from ACN later on if you stay at EY for now

like

Disagree, its a big jump in TC plus an accelerated promo. Not like exit opps from EY are any different than D

like

If you enjoy working at EY, another route could be leveraging your offer from D to see if they’ll promote you now and match the salary.

like

Immediate or guaranteed promo is tough to pull off. But immediate raise is absolutely possible if they wanted to keep OP

Jump to Deloitte for a year, then boomerang back to EY.

“Short term”? Sounds like it’ll take years to catch up if you don’t switch

That’s the going rate for C1’s. Good money.

WLB at Deloitte is not the same as EY. You might end up working a lot harder for pennies more. I've always heard good things about WLB at EY. Can't say I had that experience at Deloitte.

like

Totally agree with the EY aspect, my WLB has been great and I’m really happy with my team, but didn’t love the way they reacted when I told them I had another offer, they said they really wanted me to stay but said nothing could be done about comp so I’d feel really stupid staying and only making 85 when I could be making over 120…

Prior D. Being a new hire may come with big cash, but longevity may not be the best. WLB isn’t the best and they work harder not smarter. The promotion process isn’t the best at D and many people hear the same “you almost made the mark this year, try again next year” while wanting you to do more while paying you the same.

like

Yes I’ve heard to only expect 5-7% income increase next year which doesn’t sound too lucrative … vs. EY gives much larger salary increases but much smaller bonuses

Which city are you based in ?

I’d say take the money. Try to get like 5-10k more but regardless of whether you get it or not I think based on the cost of living in a city like LA you’ll prob appreciate the money a bit more

120k at Deloitte for associate level. This has be to be tech consulting rignt ?

120k for consultant level!

What was your domain at EY and what are you joining at D?

Would you guys consider leaving for a role that offers a much higher base salary but no opportunities to advance? Got an offer that’s an 85% raise adjusted for cost of living. The work seems interesting and I like the company but it’s a smaller office so I basically couldn’t get promoted unless my boss retires or quits.

Our team pay structure is changing and compensation has been reviewed by the partners on an “individual x individual basis”. Changes will be communicated individually. Head partner said there would be no transparency on the new bandings for each grade or the framework used to make these decisions. Someone asked about unconscious bias and the answer was “I’m sure we have none”. Leadership all white, almost all male. Is there any way I can challenge/do something?

4PQE. UK. Have been offered a job at another firm but they've only agreed to match my salary. I went back asking for more and have been sternly told that's not possible as I'm already being offered more than what their bandings allow.

The new firm seems like it would be better for the sector I'm specialising in but anyone else I hear that moves tends to get a considerable payrise! I feel reluctant to move if I'm not getting a big pay jump... Is moving for the same pay a done thing?

Work in a jurisdiction where compensation is semi lockstep (each year group has a pay band with a few thousand scope). I have been given consistent praise by seniors including the partners. At remuneration time I asked where I sat on the band and they said pretty much in the middle. I’m satisfied with the package, but given the praise I thought I might be further up the band. Other than billables, does anyone have any good strategies to ensure that next round I am higher up the pay band? … cont

Cross posting this but could use the female perspective — Got a really substantial (~40%) mid year raise after I brought in a basically unsolicited competing offer from one of our peers. My firm typically only adjusts salary on an annual basis in March, and I’m pretty worried I’ll see a smaller than normal annual raise this spring to “make up for” my out of sequence mid year raise. Any advice on advocating for myself to ensure that doesn’t happen?
